Once there lived a poor woodcutter. But he was very honest. He earned his livelihood by selling wood in the market. One day while he was cutting a tree on the bank of a river, his axe fell into water. The wood cutter didn’t know how to swim or dive . He was lamenting sitting by the bank of the river.

Then suddenly a beautiful fairy appeared and asked him the reason for his crying . On learning what had happened , the fairy dived into the river and brought up a golden axe and asked him if it was the axe he had lost . The woodman replied that it was not his. The fairy then dived a second time and brought up a silver axe and asked if it was his. “No, man is not mining either , ” said the woodman. The fairy again dived into the river and brought up the missing axe. The woodman was overjoyed at regaining . His axe and thanked the fairy for her help.

The fairy was so pleased with the woodcutter for his honesty that she gave him the other two axes also. Having heard the story, one of the woodcutter’s companion decided to try his luck for himself . So he went and started to cut a tree on the bank of the river anf let his axe drop into water. The fairy appeared as before and on learning that his axe had fallen in the river, she dived anf brought up a golden axe as he had done on the previous occasion. Without waiting to be asked the fellow cried out, “ That's mine, that is mine. ” And stretched out his hand eagerly for the axe. But the fairy was so disgusted at his dishonesty that she gave him neither the golden axe nor the one he lost.

So we learned from this story that never lie or be greedy.
