This will be a great boost for africa. The former Minister of Finance of Nigeria, Dr. Ngozi Okonji-Iweala is approaching the appointment of the new Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

According to Reuters, a group of ambassadors also known as the "troika" proposed to Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealu to lead the WTO, giving it a clear path to becoming the first woman to lead the WTO since it began 25 years ago. The three ambassadors are believed to have significant powers in determining what constitutes a very "complicated and opaque" process.

Most Nigerian media have already declared NOI the winner of the process, although the WTO has not yet made it official.

The WTO is expected to officially announce the winner of the WTO DG role later today.

However, there seems to be a new twist in the expected announcement of her appearance as the new Director-General of the WTO.

The United States, through its representative to the WTO, has insisted that the South Korean candidate is still in conflict and that Washington will not recognize Okonjo-Iweal as a consensus candidate for the post of director general.

As a result, the WTO chief adviser postponed the announcement of the new director general for November 9, after the US presidential election, after further consultations.

The Okonjo-Iweale announcement, which is said to have received the support of the vast majority of Member States, including the EU, Japan and China, as the new head of the World Trade Organization, would be a huge boost for Africa.
