Pink Beaches in the Philippines

PINK BEACHES – It is a well-known fact that the Philippines is dotted with beautiful, breathtaking white sand beaches; but we don’t happen to know that we also have brimming pink shores! Yes, you heard me right!

These pink beaches are not the usual white sand that we see but they’re worth the hunt.

How did these beaches become pink?

The magic of nature makes these shores pink. The color came from crushed shells of Foraminifera, which are microscopic protists like algae and amoeba.

When these invertebrates die, their shells sink to the ocean’s bottom and are washed ashore after many years. Red corals also contribute to the sand’s pink color.

This needs no further talks, so here are the prettiest pink beaches found in the Philippines:

Great Santa Cruz Island(Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur)

Great Santa Cruz Island is a small inhabited island in Zamboanga City in the southern region of the Philippines that is famous for its pink coralline sand. The island, located 4 kilometers south of downtown at the Santa Cruz Bank in the Basilan Strait.

Pink Beach of Calintaan Island

The Philippines usually have cream, white sand beaches..But this one is rarest of them all. This unspoiled beach off Matnog town, the southernmost tip of Luzon, is popular for fine grains of sand that have little specks of pink, prodding locals to also call it “Malarosa” or pinkish. To get to Subic Beach head to Matnog, to which buses offer direct 13-hour trips from Cubao or Pasay. You may also go there by plane via Legazpi, and take shuttles straight to Matnog or via Sorsogon City. From the Matnog Port, rent a boat that will tour you around Tikling Island, the Juag Fish Sanctuary, and Calintaan Island.

Pink Beach of Sila Island

Sila Island is found along the coast of Northern Samar! Its powdery, sweet-hued shore is the result of pulverized red corals and shelled creatures, called foraminifera, blending with the white sand. These fragments are washed ashore during the southwest monsoon season.

Subic Beach

This particular Subic is in Matnog, Sorsogon, and is divided into Subic Laki and Subic Liit (because two beaches are better than one)! The beach’s fine, pink-tinged sand also comes from crushed red corals.

Tikling Island

If there’s anything you need to know, Sorsogon is clearly brimming with rose-tinted shores! Yet another beach found in Matnog, Tikling Island is a hidden gem of pink sand you ought to explore.

Pundaguitan Beach

Also called Parola Beach, this long stretch of pink shoreline can be found in Cape San Agustin, Davao Oriental. Pundaguitan’s candy-colored sand comes from red organ-pipe coral sediments that mix with its original white sand.

Charming beaches, you say! So, book your tickets now and let your feet land on some rose-tinted sands! Such a beauty!
