India is a little known country, but it has places that should be visited sometime as is the city of Jaipur. This city is also known as "Pink City" because of its color, which transmits purity and at the same time helps us to understand a little about its essence.

Connected Horizons

It is very important to note that Jaipur was never pink, in fact, there were many variations on the use of pink in the city and one of them alludes to the desire of Maharaja Jai Singh, founder of the city in 1727, to emulate the color of the buildings built with red sandstone during the Mughal Empire. During the 19th century this city was visited by the then Prince of Wales of Jaipur, so another version arose when Prince Albert of Wales and Queen Elizabeth visited this city. They mentioned that the color pink is a symbol of hospitality for the leaders of Jaipur.

There is a legend that mentions that one of the favorite women of the Maharaja achieved the permanence of the pink color of the walls and prohibited to paint any other building in a different color. This happened in 1877, after the expected visit.

This city is very old, so its history and its name easily catches people's attention. In fact the area of the old town is the one that stands out for its salmon pink color, a shade that according to the tradition of Rajasthan brings good fortune. Without leaving aside that there are other places like the Palace of the winds that also has a pink tone and was intended to allow the royal women to observe the streets without being seen. Currently it is a structure without a backdrop of which only the facade is preserved.

Jaipur is a symmetrical city, so its layout attracts the attention not only of the inhabitants, but also of tourists. It is surrounded by a wall of 10 gates and is divided into 6 neighborhoods that are separated by avenues between them.

Mono de Viaje

It is defined as a romantic pink hue since 1876, which makes it one of the architectural wonders of India. Today it is still treated as a thriving city of flourishing commerce and powerful industries, such as weaving, jewelry, among others. It has kept the color pink in the decorations giving it a personality of its own, so the municipal authorities paint the center of the city pink every 10 years as a way of caring for its heritage and the attention it receives.

The history that this great city possesses is really interesting and has remained stable for generations. Personally, it is one of the places that I have loved the most and that I hope to visit at some point, to be able to live that symbolic hospitality that Jaipur offers. Amazing!
