Many curious things happen in the world or in this occasion in specific countries. Surely you have seen some video or image about a place where every day is night, while other videos show that it is completely daylight regardless of the time. So, the question arises as to why this usually happens and that is why here I will explain a little about the subject.
Can you imagine a night that lasts half a year or a day in the same way?
There are some countries near the North Pole such as Alaska, Russia, Canada, Iceland, Greenland, among others to a greater or lesser extent each. However, this phenomenon varies in duration and the countries that are on the south side of the North Pole are the ones that experience it the least.
It is very important to note that it is not absolute either, i.e., the intensity of light during the 6 months of daylight will not always appear at three o'clock in the afternoon. While during the 6 months of night it is certain that sunlight will simply not appear.
Why does this happen?
We must take into account the orbit of the Earth around the sun, as well as its position at the change of seasons. But, we cannot forget that the Earth rotates on itself and both actions are united in this phenomenon, that is, the months of darkness respond to the tilt of the Earth, just at the moment when the sun does not reach the poles, being the reason why this phenomenon of a six-month day or night occurs in the regions near the poles, less in the central ones.
When the light is strongest at the North Pole, periods of darkness occur in the south, while when the light at the South Pole is strongest, darkness occurs in the north.
This phenomenon is called the Midnight Sun and can last approximately 71 days in these regions. Not to mention that the tilt of the Earth's rotation axis is 23 degrees.
However, there is another phenomenon contrary to this called as Polar Night, where not only live without sun, but also the temperature decreases considerably, but the areas where it occurs have adapted to it, although it is still difficult anyway.
