The history of Mount Kilimanjaro
A world full of really curious and interesting things. I recently came across an image of Mount Kilimanjaro, which is located in northwestern Tanzania. However, this mountain is known for its 3 inactive volcanoes, being named as: Shira, Mawenzi and Kibo. Without leaving aside that with its 5895 meters of altitude it becomes the highest summit of the entire African continent, thus forming the group of the highest mountains in the world.
Well, the Kilimanjaro since ancient times has been the cradle of the Maasai shepherds, since its meadows and watercourses could be a perfect food for the herds. However, for many years there have been written mentions of the mountain, which only highlight its snow-capped peaks.
In 1856 Kilimanjaro aroused the curiosity of explorers, who attempted several ascents. However, after 34 years, that is, in 1889, the German Hans Meyer, the Austrian Ludwig Purtscheller and the Chagga guide Yohana Lauwo reached the summit after only two attempts that they were unable to complete.
It is very important to note that, at the beginning of the 20th century, the Germans began to build shelters on the mountain to facilitate the ascent, but when the First World War began, the ascents came to a standstill. In the mid 1920's the ascents were resumed again, where one explorer managed to get a frozen leopard.
Today, both mountaineers and novices can climb Kilimanjaro, as the ascent is no longer technically difficult. However, I should mention that it is important to plan enough time for the body to get used to the altitude, but the routes differ in difficulty and duration, and it is best not to go too fast. Not to mention that the most popular routes are the Marangu route and the Machame route.
Personally, it is a very interesting mountain because of the three volcanoes it has, without forgetting that it is one of the highest, which makes it even more interesting. As we have seen in its history, anyone is capable of reaching it, even ourselves, but very carefully and slowly, I really hope to be able to climb one of the peaks at some point!
