India continues to surprise with its great cities, so the city of Jaisalmer is not far behind, being recognized as a golden city, because it is located on a hill of yellowish sandstone, which gives that golden touch even in its surroundings.
This place has at its disposal an impressive fortress containing palaces and several ornate Jains temples, which house most of its population. Not to mention that many of the houses and temples are delicately and elegantly carved, making this city look like a fairy tale.
It is very important to mention that most of the inhabitants of Jaisalmet are Bhat Rajputs, who owe their name to their ancestor Bhatti, a famous warrior when the tribes were in the Punjab area, and who later had to migrate to the south making this area their home. Thus Bhatti's descendants were the founders of the Jaisalmet dynasty. However, in 1156, Rawal Jaisal, the sixth successor of Deoraj, founded the fort and the city of Jaisalmer, thus making it the capital.
Years later, small disputes between India and Pakistan have made Jaisalmer recover the strategic importance it had in the past. Without leaving aside that it is an important point as a place of supply and the army of India, so that later the Rajasthan Canal served to populate the desert surroundings and roads and railways were built linking Jaisalmer and surroundings with the rest of Rajasthan. Being very important to note that the government of Rajasthan decided to promote Jaisalmer as a tourist destination, and now tourism brings most of its income.
Unfortunately the city has deteriorated so several campaigns have been carried out to prevent further damage. In fact, in 1998 natural gas was found in the Jaisalmer basin, something that will undoubtedly help its growth.
When visiting this place you can find the Jaisalmer fountain, the Jain temples, Gadisagar Lake, among others. These places can easily catch your attention in plain sight because of their beautiful structure, history and so on. Isn't it amazing?
This golden city completely caught my attention completely, making me want to visit it soon. The history of this place is very interesting, as it also tells itself, which is very amazing.
