Hunga Tonga, the island born from a volcanic eruption!
The history of this island is completely interesting, since it surprised many people a short time ago. It should be noted that it is very curious for the simple fact that it was born from a volcanic eruption.
At the end of 2014, a submarine volcano that is located in some territory belonging to the Tonga Kingdom in the South Pacific, erupted, which this natural phenomenon began to throw ashes, rocks into the air and even, a violent steam.
All of the incandescent material rose to a height of more than 9 kilometers. When the ashes finally disappeared at the beginning of 2015, a 120-meter island was born between the two older islands. It was so impressive that it even became visible to satellites in space.
Well, the new island of the Kingdom of Tonga, which was named Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai by its neighbors, was very significant and was seen as a great opportunity to observe an island that literally emerged from a volcanic eruption. However, it was theorized that such an island would last only a few months, exactly between 6 to 30 years. It was thus important to note that during that year this island became the first of its kind, i.e. to erupt and persist in the modern era along with the satellites.
What is even more impressive is that after 150 years this became the third island to emerge and persist for more than a few months. But, from the very beginning, Tonga Island was monitored to learn more about it, using satellite sensors and unique sensors that can be seen through the clouds.
For the first six months, the island that was born and joined to the western island was relatively oval. However, weeks after viewing the satellite images carefully, it was confirmed that its shape had changed dramatically.
What happened to the island today?
Six years after this great apparition, Hunga Tonga Island has disappeared after an eruptive process that began in late December 2021 and peaked on January 15, 2022, thus wiping the young island off the map.
Well, with 20 kilometers in diameter and 1,800 meters high, the eruption caused fumaroles 30 kilometers high and also the dispersion of ash and volcanic material for hundreds of kilometers around.
Personally, I did not know that there existed at some point an island that was born from a submarine volcanic eruption, which is completely interesting, and doing a little research on this subject cleared up many doubts about it
