When we say Argentina we mean tango. It is the most famous music genre and dance style of Argentina. Passionate rhythms and real expression created tango, an elegant and intimate creative style so well known to all of us. It originated on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, began to develop among members of the lower social classes, in brothels and bars where the only women present were prostitutes. Perhaps it was the physical liberation between prostitutes and brothel guests that was the driving force behind the development of tango in Argentina. In the 1880s, male-female relationships were only formally accepted, and the idea of close embraces was unheard of, especially in public.
Tango broke the norms of forced, conservative group dance and finally created a space in which men and women would express themselves through dance. Assisted by melancholic notes of the accordion, rather raw and suggestive lyrics were created. Aristocratically, tango remained popular for a long time only among the lower classes and was eventually accepted by a large immigrant population mostly composed of Spaniards and Italians.
