Nikola Tesla, between being born into a modest Serbian family in the Austrian Empire, and even more modestly, a lonely death in a hotel room in New York, became one of the greatest inventors of the modern age, a genius and the originator of a new era - the AC era.
When Tesla arrived in America in 1884, ready to show the world his ideas and find financiers for his projects, he became Edison's assistant. After proving to be an exceptional expert and after successfully solving many problems in which the company found itself, Tesla received a very tempting offer from Edison.
Namely, Edison offered him $ 50,000, which is the equivalent of today's million, for the complete reconstruction and redesign of the DC generator.
Such a generous offer did arouse a certain skepticism, having in mind that Edison's company was known for stinginess, but Tesla still accepted.
A year later, after a successful job that brought prosperity to the company, Tesla asked for the promised money. Edison replied, "Tesla, you don't understand the American sense of humor." As an alternative, he offered him a weekly salary increase of $ 10. Tesla immediately resigned.
"Electricity War" has started
The quarrel between the two currents was further intensified in public when Edison presented Tesla's alternating current as dangerous and used it to kill animals in front of the media. In response, Tesla connected to the AC circuit, which caused the filament of the electric light bulb to glow, and thus dispelled prejudices about the harmfulness of AC.
Nikola Tesla was what today's stereotypes would describe as a "crazy scientist". Tesla's inventions were as ingenious as Edison's ambition, and what finally doomed his legacy to commercial failure was the fact that Tesla's vision went too far ahead of the time in which he lived, the technology at his disposal, and the evolution of society's consciousness. which surrounded him. Tesla's greatest achievement is certainly alternating current, which he perfected and commercialized.
In addition to the AC motor, he is the father of many other inventions, such as the induction motor, wireless transmission of electricity, radio, lightning rods, rotating magnetic field. Although he himself was a very famous and respected scientist, his popularity was based on spectacular performances in which, through the experiments he performed, he tried to demonstrate the inventiveness and impressiveness of his discoveries.
He died poor and alone in a hotel room in New York, USA, on January 7, 1943.
Genije,za mene nejasno što nije proglašen za svetca!
