A healthy person has many desires, and a sick person only one - to be HEALTHY.

Say it out loud for the first time

‘I have cancer’ is the hardest. The more you say that,it becomes easier to say those words. The more I am discussed her breast cancer diagnosis, that it was easier for me to accept everything I was going through. Sometimes it seemed ironic what I had the feeling that I am the one trying to cheer up those to whom I told sad news.

I feel like I was lucky to be a few years ago

I survived cancer and I am grateful every morning when I wake up and I can get out of bed.

Breast cancer in a large number of countries makes up 25 percent of all malignant diseases in the female population, while the number of patients who lose the battle with this disease makes up as much as 15 percent of all deaths from all malignant diseases. Over the past year, more than two million new cases of the disease have been registered worldwide with over 500,000 deaths. When it comes to Serbia, that breast cancer is the leading malignant disease, and that every fourth woman in our country who suffers from a malignant disease has breast cancer, while every fifth woman who dies from a malignant disease dies from that disease.

Because of these devastating numbers, it is important that they report for an examination on time, so that there are no permanent delays. I can't today, I will tomorrow, or what if I have cancer ... If it is detected in time and treatment is adequately approached, there is a great chance that it will be cured.

What is breast cancer?

Breast cancer is a malignant growth that occurs when normal cells begin to multiply rapidly and destroy the surrounding healthy breast tissue, and later other organs.

Breast cancer most commonly occurs in older women who:

have the closest relatives (mother, sister, aunt, grandmother) suffering from this disease;

they had their first period before the age of 12, and the last after the age of 50;

did not give birth or had their first birth after the age of 30;

they have been using hormone therapy, alcohol and tobacco for a long time;

are obese and physically inactive.

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor, which, if detected at an early stage, can be completely cured.

The most common symptom of breast cancer is a palpable nodule in the breast, which is often felt by women themselves. In addition, other signs that a breast tumor is developing are: breast enlargement, which leads to breast asymmetry (about 20% of women have naturally asymmetrical breasts), redness and thickened skin, sometimes skin in the form of "orange peel", "ripples ”Skin, nipple retraction or bloody discharge from the nipple. At the same time, enlarged lymph nodes in the equilateral axilla can be palpated if the disease has spread to regional lymph nodes. It should be borne in mind that not all enlarged lymph nodes are affected by metastases.

What is screening?

Screening involves an examination of the appearance of healthy women, without the presence of symptoms and signs of the disease, which can detect early changes in breast tissue, when effective treatment is possible.

What is mammography?

Mammography is an X-ray examination to detect changes in the breast, which cannot be felt or detected by other types of examinations. If breast cancer is detected at an early stage, there is a greater chance of cure using sparing surgical methods, recovery is faster, and the quality of life is better than in women whose disease is detected at a later stage. Small and harmless doses of radiation are used in mammography.

One of the important items is breast self-examination.

Cancer is a serious disease! A lot of people get sick! We need to be aware that hard times have come, and that we need to go for regular check-ups to avoid bad prognoses.
