Beer production is one of the oldest human crafts. Clay tiles, preserved from the period of ancient Babylon, made 8,000 years ago (and these are also the oldest clay tiles), describe the process of making beer.

Brewing in Babylon has been perfected to such an extent that the Babylonians, as far back as 4,000 BC, prepared 16 types of beer. Beer is made from boiled barley to which hops are added. Different types of beer, or beer-like drinks, were produced in different parts of the world. In China, 2,300 BC, a drink similar to beer was made, which was called beak. The natives of South America, the Inca people, prepared drinks called beets and sora from boiled grain long before the Europeans discovered that continent.

In ancient Egypt, beer was an important part of the daily diet. Around 3,000 BC, the Egyptians already made three types of beer. The wage that Pharaoh paid to the peasant and the worker was four large loaves of bread and two pitchers of beer. There are old records showing that mothers in ancient Egypt used to bring beer to their sons to school. One Egyptian ruler, Ramses IX, claimed to have given 466,303 pitchers of beer to the gods.

From the records that have been preserved to this day, we can reliably claim that all the ancient peoples, who lived in climates where cereals could be grown, knew about some kind of beer. The ancient Greeks and Romans also knew about beer.

FOUR BASIC INGREDIENTS IN BEER

While many elements can be added depending on the beer series, the beer base is made from these four basic ingredients:

Water (H2O makes up 90% of beer content)

Barley (this is the recommended grain for beer, but there are other types)

Hops (affects the taste and aroma of beer)

Yeast (fundamental in the fermentation process, its main purpose in beer is to make alcohol)

Beer belongs to the group of low-alcohol drinks, which contains between 3 and 13% alcohol. Today, a huge number of types of this drink are known. The largest producers in the world are Germany, Great Britain, the USA, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Ireland… Various events dedicated to him are held around the world.

The biggest and most important is certainly "Oktobarfest", in Munich. In our country, there are two events dedicated to this liquid, namely "Bear Fest" in Belgrade and "Beer Days" in our city, which are also the oldest event in Serbia. The name beer comes from the IV century.

The content of protein and vitamin B in beer is higher than in wine. That is why you will get more protein with beer than if you drink a glass of wine. That is why one mug of beer a day is allowed.
