It has been 26 years since the legendary Brazilian Ayrton Senna lost his life during the Formula 1 race for the San Marino Grand Prix. Sena, one of the best drivers in the history of Formula 1, if not the best, died at the age of 34 after his steering wheel broke and failed, at a speed of over 300 km / h, hit a wall in the curve of Tamburelo on the track "Enco and Dino Ferrari ”.

The legendary Brazilian has triumphed 41 times in his career, found himself on the podium 39 more times, won three championship titles and was remembered as the king of qualifications and the best driver in the rain ever.

He ruled the streets of Monte Carlo and since his debut in Formula 1 in 1984, he has defended the colors of Toleman, Lotus, McLaren and Williams.

Given that legends live forever, in memory of the man who left an indelible mark in the world of sports and motoring, we remember the great Seine…

Sena was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as Ayrton Sena da Silva, into a wealthy family. When he wanted his first karting car, he received it as a gift from his father when he was only 4 years old, and he started karting competitions at the age of 13.

He entered the world of Formula 1 in 1984. The wealth of his family certainly enabled him to enter the expensive world of motoring, but don't be fooled by that fact. The villains would say that Seni's father provided him with entry into this sport, but his father definitely did not provide him with a stay in it. Simply - he was the best.

He made his debut in 1984 in a very bad car for Toleman. In the 4th race of the season in Monaco, Sena slowly began to break into the world of serious motoring names.

It was raining unbelievably. They say a torrent of water is pouring down the streets of Monaco. Sena started from 13th position, but during a race that everyone thought was unfeasible due to virtually impossible weather conditions (the race was briefly interrupted at one point), Sena "added gas" and reached position 2 in lap 31. .

Some of the enthusiastic journalists shouted "Rain man", and the crowd accepted the name that was given to him spontaneously, so Sena's nickname remained "Rain Man" until the end. They say it is one of the best races in the history of Formula 1.

In 1988, Sena decided to join the McLaren team, in which his teammate was the hardened Alan Prost. That season, they both won 15 of 16 races together, and the Brazilian took his first title thanks to the competition system. This was because only 11 races were scored, while the other five were characterized as races for prestige.

However, the rivalry between the two maestro drivers was visible from the start. Prost, when they called him "Professor", because of his exceptional insight and concentration to drive in many races in the so-called firungu or as professional drivers would slangically say "on the shoelace", he could not stand the hearty and brave Sen who drove forever "on a razor".

They say that the Senna drove faster than the speed for which the cars were designed. He used to say, "Being second means being first among those who have lost. I'm not designed to be 2nd or 3rd. I was born to win."

He was very religious. He often said that "if you have God on your side, everything is much clearer." He was always incredibly calm and down-to-earth, almost humble in conversation with ordinary people, which is not typical of other Formula 1 drivers, who are usually arrogant and arrogant.

During his life, he spent 400 million dollars on the education of Brazilian children, without ever saying a word about it in public. He loved to play chess, ride jet skis, water ski and fish.

Sena feared that someone would be killed at the Tamburelo turn in Imola. He told his colleague, Gerhard Berger, that the protective fence had to be moved from that angle, because he was afraid that someone would die there, but as the river flowed right behind the fence, it was impossible to do that. He did not know that, ironically, he would be the one to lose his life in that place. Just half an hour before the race, he gave an interview to a French TV station, deciding to bury the hatchets with Alan Prost. During the race, which started at 2 pm, Sena hit a concrete wall on Tamburel at a speed of 280 km / h. Although he was immediately given medical help, nothing more could be done for him.

After Senna's death, his sister Vivienne continued to run the Ayrton Senna Institute, which was founded by her brother, and to this day has helped educate millions of Brazilian children. The board member is none other than - Alan Prost. Many streets, avenues and institutions in Brazil today are named Ayrton Senna.
