Did you know?
Fidel Castro survived about 634 assassination attempts, mostly coordinated by the CIA at the time of the Cold War.
During the Cold War, the U.S. government engaged itself in various plots to infiltrate elections and instigate assassination attempts on foreign leaders to weaken Soviet influence. And Castro, the prime minister of the closest socialist country to the U.S., was among one of the most targeted. Several examples include poisoning his box of favorite cigars in 1960, poisoning a cup of ice cream (Castro also loved ice cream), contaminating one of his diving suits, and recruiting one of his former lovers as a contract-agent for the CIA who was ordered to kill him.
