The case of Emmett Till. A sweet 14 year old boy who has been wrongly accused of assaulting a white woman. The woman's husband and a friend of his took the young boy aside, and took him away to "teach him a good lesson." Here's what they did to him. The two men were exonerated and released. Then the woman confessed to lying. The men, meanwhile, were proud of what they had done to the young boy. Emmett's mother insisted that her son's casket be left open during the funeral, to show everyone the consequences of her son's stay in the southern United States. He was a child. This is what racism is. Something I'll never understand.
