Medical Entrance tests should be Banned!

It is MDCAT season in Pakistan, Oki for non-Pakistanis, I am explaining here what is MDACT.

  • It is an entrance exam for medical-related fields like MBBS, BDS, and D-pharm.

In our Country, if someone wants to pursue medical fields as a profession and wants to study in government expenses and from government medical and dental colleges /universities he/she has to pass this exam with good marks. Otherwise one must fail to get admission to government universities and colleges. On the other hand, the elite class can easily become a doctor without passing this exam as they have the option to join private medical and dental colleges on a self-financial basis. But as you know, in Pakistan education is very expensive. It is difficult for parents to pay heavy dues to universities even for simple graduation.

  • yesterday I was surprised after seeing the fee voucher of my cousin, she is in 3rd set of BS and paying 1 lac 20 thousand per seems fee (Apart from transportation fee).

Presently, the country is going through lots of crises universities will also increase their fee. This situation is very tough for parents. A daily wager can not afford even basic education for their kids.

I am against entrance test exams. In my opinion, this entrance test can not judge the ability of a person and also is not enough to challenge 12 years of education.

Every year we hear such news like a son/daughter of a former got top position in board exams, or a boy who sells newspaper in the evening time made a record. but you know what? kids of poor people got positions because of their hard work and intelligence but still, most of them are unable to get admission to gov medical colleges or universities.

This is because the poor people don't have enough money and resources for their kids to join their academies. Academies are charging very high fees for 2-3 months. They are just running a business these days. Oki, I agree many academies are offering scholarships, but still, kids from far places have to stay in hostels for the sake of preparation and hostels are charging very high fees too.

Academies usually announce scholarships for only 3-4 students in a batch which is why the kids of poor people are unable to pursue medicine as a profession.

I guess the 12 years of education should be enough to judge a student's intelligence and expertise. Only F.sc exams are enough. All people should have equal chances and equal rights to adopt any profession. Our education system needs revolutionization.

what's your opinion regarding this matter, let me know if you have any suggestions for higher authorities.

I hope you like reading my content, will meet you in the next blog in Sha Allah.

Banning medical entrance tests is a contentious issue. Proponents argue that these tests often favor students from privileged backgrounds, potentially limiting access to diverse talent in the medical field. Critics of banning assert that entrance exams are necessary to ensure candidates have the requisite knowledge and skills for rigorous medical training. A balanced approach may involve reforming the testing system to enhance fairness and accessibility while maintaining high standards. https://practicewithease.com/
