Four Saffron Benefits For Men
Saffron is nature’s wonder drug. Throughout the millennia, it has been used to treat a vast range of illnesses and as a general aid to health from the Mediterranean, to the Near East and Central Asia, all the way to China.
And while the precious spice’s general health benefits are increasingly well known, not as many people are aware of the saffron benefits for men, specifically. We’ll introduce you to four surprising benefits of saffron as it pertains to men’s health.
ED
Erectile dysfunction affects millions of men, especially as they get a bit older. It can be a hard subject to talk about — so sensitive that many guys don’t even want to broach the subject with their physician.
But there’s some good news from an ancient spice: saffron has been proven effective in the treatment of ED in controlled studies.
The effects of saffron on blood circulation and overall health are well-known, which might provide some explanation for the spice’s impact on male sexual health. And since ED sufferers are often plagued with “performance anxiety”, saffron’s mood lifting and aphrodisiac effects may also be at work.
INTERMITTENT FASTING HELP
More and more men are trying to balance weight loss with muscle building: losing fat and gaining lean body mass at the same time.
And one of the most popular ways to accomplish this nowadays is through strength training combined with intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting, or IF, is essentially just the practice of leaving longer gaps between the last meal of the day and the first meal of the following day. You just “fast” for 12–18 hours per day (or more).
It’s enormously effective. But lots of guys have problems with cravings before that first meal of the day.
And that’s where saffron can help.
Recent research has shown that saffron is tremendously effective at curbing food cravings between (or before) meals.
So for guys doing IF, a cup of saffron tea in the morning might be the best way to stick to the plan. The road to ripped is paved with saffron!
HEART HEALTH
Everyone needs to think about good heart health. But men have a higher risk of heart disease than women — and heart attacks strike them at younger ages, on average than women.
That’s why daily saffron use is an excellent idea for men (of any age).
Studies have indicated that saffron may be able to lower cholesterol levels and keep them in balance. And saffron is also known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, which are crucial aids to good cardiovascular health.
It’s also worth noting that cultures where a great deal of saffron is traditionally used — especially in the Mediterranean region — often have lower incidences of heart disease than elsewhere.
INFERTILITY
When couples struggle to conceive, there can be any number of reasons why. But in some cases, male infertility is the root cause — and surprisingly, saffron may be able to help.
A study done by Iranian urologists demonstrated that treatment with saffron (50mg dissolved in milk three times per week) was effective in improving two key problem areas that affect male fertility.
Interestingly, while saffron didn’t seem to improve sperm count at all, it did improve the quality and the motility of the study participants’ sperm — meaning that the sperm would stand a better chance of successfully fertilising an egg cell.
Further studies are planned, but if you’d like to try saffron as a fertility aid, it certainly won’t hurt you, and it just might do the trick!
THE FUTURE
