Understanding HIVE
Now that I have been using the Hive platform for 2 weeks, I think I am beginning to understand a little bit more of how it works. And since, I have rarely come across something that explains for an absolute beginner, this is my attempt to simplify it for those who might be a beginner like me.
1. Hive Power is everything. Well, so are Resource credits and Voting Mana. Let me explain. You require Voting Power, Resource Credits to perform any action on the platform. They do get filled automatically, based on how much Hive Power you have and how much Voting Mana and Resource credits are exhausted. For a beginner with a absolutely 0 to the bare minimum Hive Power, it can take about 5 days to fully recharge. So, use your Resource Credits and Voting Mana wisely. Do not let your Resource credits go down below 80%, as it takes a much longer time to get the resources to fully charge up. Remember that every action you perform deducts your Resource credits. Like a post, Joining a community, changing your settings, writing a post, writing a comment.
2. Reputation and Hive Power influences the amount you can vote for. For an absolute beginner with a low reputation score, even a 100% vote can mean 0.00 USD. You can gain reputation by posting engaging content. And by having an engaging community, you can get more HP rewards for your post. So, take your time, write meaningful content and build your followers who engage in your post.
3. As a beginner, with 0 followers, when your submit a post to your blog, you may actually have no audience for your post. Submit your post in the right community. You will gain more eyeballs for your post, and gain some followers too.
4. Write a short post introducing yourself when you first start out. It gives the community to know about you.
5. Powering up your Hives and Hive Power - You can visit the giftgiver site to earn some Hives and Hive Power. It is not a whole lot, but it is something and it can help you get started. Or you can buy HIVE and convert them to Hive Power.
6. Post regularly. You will learn along the way.
Hope this helps you if you are starting out on HIVE.
If you made it this far. Thank you for reading :)
