I'm going to throw something out there:Not everything that's happening to the country right now is bad! Now before I get called crazy, let me explain. I read that the crashing oil prices may cause hundreds of U.S. oil companies to go bankrupt. Unfortunate for those in the industry, but not necessarily a bad thing for the the country or the planet for that matter. The country has lagged behind others in weaning itself off of carbon fuels. Only select special interests and a small group of corrupt congressmen have prevented this from happening until now. The virus will force us into a painful withdrawal, like quitting cigarettes, but a necessary reprieve for the environment. It stands to reason that it will also speed the development of cleaner energy sources and electric cars, which economists have predicted for some time. Like I said, perhaps it's not all bad. Covid cirus is just making these things happen a little sooner.
Next, the recent elevation of certain professions, such as nursing and teaching for example, is long overdue. We pay athletes enormous sums of money to entertain us. Many make more in one game than a teacher will make iin an entire working career. I'll miss the NFL on Sundays, but I can live very well without it.I wrote earlier in this epedemicc that I thought the virus could be an economic game changer, and it has.The lowly grocery worker who stocks the shelves to feed me is suddenly far more important than the star quarterback of my city's football team. Somewhere down the line we lost sight of what's really important, and it isn't sports. It's a shame it took an epedemic to force the changes I don't think we would have otherwise made ourselves.
