It was a cool evening in Delta city, a fine young woman of 18years had broken the news of her acceptance into a prominent college to her family. The atmosphere was filled with joy, she could not contain her happiness and wished so much for daybreak so she could immediately go tell her friends of her new achievement.🤗
Her parents were also super excited that they offered her different kinds of treats that evening. From extra portion of food which her mother wouldn't have done on an ordinary day because of the scarcity of food in their city, to her father asking if she would like to go for shopping the next day although he had no money but was willing to spend a little from his long term savings with hope awaiting the day that his daughter will become a college student.
In this city, whoever makes it to higher institution as well as the parents of such a person is are respected, Eve was an ambitious young woman who has always envisioned how to live a life totally different from what the norm in her local town was, the early adopters of formal education had abandoned them, and secretly fight to ensure that no one will rise to their level of knowledge and exposure as this seemed like a threat to their ability to keep the majority as slaves who will always fall to their feet for help and pick crumbs from their tables. Eve was pure hearted, always thought of how she would become a medical doctor from the prestigious college in the big city and then return to her community to provide free health services to the weak and poor. This dream was about to become a reality with her unbiased acceptance to the college.
The long awaited morning light shun so bright that it's brightness could show the rythm of the songs of joy in the hearts of her household. She woke up very early and helped her mother in getting all her trade goods ready.
At noon she was already done with preparing meal for her younger siblings who were out for school. She excitedly set out to visit two of her friends to break the good news of her acceptance, one of them was Jenny who was from a wealthy home and had all she could ever ask for. She has never been interested in studying as she felt there was no need of having a goal in life since she was lucky to be born to rich parents. She believed that whatever wealth her parents have will never finish and that she could just live her life carefree in luxury.
Jenny never cared to learn the business of her parents so as to take over when the are old and weak. Her father has never been happy about that and will never let Jenny have peace of mind for a day whenever he was around. He was a very hardworking man and usually travels for days to other cities to conduct business and monitor the company's productivity. He chose to reside in Delta city because of the calmness and serene atmosphere that existed there. Also there was so much love shared among the locals to one another despite the challenges of scarcity of food. There were few families residing in this city and each cared so much about the well being of another, he always remembered how he grew up in a little town called Allen. His parents and other parents will come out at night and make fire, sit around it and tell stories to children and give them hope for a brighter future but today the city of Allen knows no such unity and love anymore ever since strangers came to live among them and succeeded in deceiving some of them to betray one another by secretly selling some of their livestock and lands to the strangers. Bitterness set in and the city became a terrible place to raise a family and that was how Jenny's father decided to move his family to Delta, a serene and sane environment.
Jenny's mother would care very less about what her daughter would become, she would be angry whenever her father scolded her to study or at least learn a craft. According to her, she didn't want her only child suffering.
As Eve got to Jenny's home, she was asked to wait outside and her supposed friend was notified of her presence. Jenny then prepared her self and came down to meet Eve. Jenny was always obsessed with how she looked, she always wants everyone to tell her that she is beautiful, one could easily tell that she had a low self esteem. She always wants to put out her frustration on others especially those she knew had little or nothing. On seeing Eve, the first comment she made was "hey Eve, why are you wearing these same clothes you wore 2days ago?" Eve felt bad but anyways she wouldn't let anyone ruin her day because nothing mattered more than her good news at that moment.
She smiled and stayed calm, after few seconds she went ahead to break the news of her acceptance to her friend. In great shock, Jenny froze for 30seconds with her eyes wide open and when she gained consciousness instead of congratulating her the opposite was her response "you do not deserve this" "I should be the one being talked about in the city" "your parents can't even afford it, I trust my instincts that you won't make it past first year". Eve was so surprised and dumbfounded, she turned immediately to leave and she left in tears.
