Every religion and civilization has permission and instructions to earn the money needed to sustain life and to enjoy wealth. But in no other religion or civilization, like Islam, income and expenditure have been framed in terms of rules and regulations. On the one hand, Islam has instructed to earn money in a halal way, on the other hand, it has also instructed to spend the earned money in a lawful way. Waste and waste of money and resources in human society has become a global problem today. But Islam has clearly declared it haram. This is discussed below.

Meaning of Israf and Tabazir:

The Arabic word 'extravagance' means transgression, waste, extravagance, extravagance, excess, excess, excess. Some scholars have defined the word 'extravagance' as spending and eating. The eminent linguist Sharif Ali Jurjani (640-618 AH) defined 'Israf' as follows:

‘Extravagance’ is spending a lot of money for a base purpose and violating the limits of spending. Some people say that a person eats illegal things or that what is halal for him is excessive and overeating. In this regard, Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

‘Eat of their fruits when it bears fruit, and reap their due on the day of harvest. And do not waste. Surely Allah does not love the wasteful '(An'am 6/141).

Ibn 'Abbas (R) said, "Whoever spends a dirham in vain is a waste."

And ‘Tabazir’ also means waste, waste, wasteful spending, extravagance, etc. The etymological meaning is to scatter and throw seeds. From this, the word is widely used metaphorically to mean wasting money and resources unnecessarily.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And do not squander, for the squanderers are the brothers of Satan” (Israel 17 / 26-27).

The jurists have defined ‘tabazir’ as ‘not using wealth wisely and spending it in improper use’.

Reasons for wastage and waste:

There are many reasons for waste and extravagance. Here are some of the ones I found to be interesting:

1. Ignorance of religion: Islam forbids people to waste and waste in various ways. Ignorance is the main reason why people waste. If a person was proficient in the knowledge of the Qur'an and Sunnah, it would not be possible for him to waste it. Allah the Almighty has said, 'O children of Adam! Wear beautiful clothes during every salat. You eat and drink. But don't waste it. Surely Allah does not love the wasteful ones' (A'raf 7/31).

The waster should be ashamed and ashamed in the world. Allah the Almighty said, ‘And do not keep your handcuffs around your neck (meaning do not be stingy) and do not let it loose at all (i.e. do not waste it). Then you will be cursed and destitute '(Israel 17/29).

For the squanderer there is a painful punishment in the Hereafter. Allah says, ‘And the party on the left. How unfortunate they are! They will be in hot air and boiling water. Which is not cool or comfortable. Earlier they were intoxicated with pleasure '(Waqbi'ah 56 / 41-45).

As a result of the ignorant person's ignorance of religion, he transgresses the limits of accepting legitimate things. And this is what motivates him to transgress the limits of physical and instinctual needs. That is why laziness sits on him. Omar (R) said, ‘Beware of excessive eating and drinking. Because excessive eating is harmful for the body, bringing inefficiency and laziness from salat. Be moderate in your eating and drinking. Because moderate eating is good for the body and helps to avoid wastage.

2. Family influences: People are influenced by the behavior of their parents in childhood. In this case, if the parents are wasteful, then the child also learns to waste. Parents need to be aware of this. The Prophet (sm) said, ‘Every newborn is born on Fitrat i.e. Islam. Then his parents made him a Jew or a Nazarene or a fire-worshiper. '

3. Companionship of wastefuls: Another reason for wastefulness is the companionship of wasteful people. Because in most cases man takes the character of his partner. So if the partner is a wasteful person, his other partners are also affected by it. Rasulullah (sm) said, ‘Every person accepts the religion of his companion. So you must be careful when choosing a partner.

4. Aspiration for recognition and fame: Another reason for wastage is to aspire for one's own fame in the society. People spend their wealth patiently to show their greatness in front of others. Basically through this he gets involved in waste, which is completely haram.

5. Indifference to real life needs: Most people spend a lot of money. He never once thought that the life of the world does not always run in parallel. There is money in hand today, there may not be tomorrow. Therefore, everyone should spend every blessing given by Allah accordingly. The rest of the money should be saved for the future by meeting today's essential expenses. Which can come in handy in times of danger.

. Indifference to the awful state of resurrection: Another reason for waste is indifference to the awful state of resurrection and punishment. Anyone who thinks of the difficult consequences of the Hereafter will surely be spared from waste.
