The last will and testament of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to pay the utmost attention to reminding the needy during the days of his illness, and in the last days of his illness he used to give the most instructions to pray and to be kind to the slaves and said: He will take care of the clothes, talk to them in a gentle way and get along with people and live a good life. ”

One day Ka'b al-Ahbar asked the second caliph: "What did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say when he gave up his last breath?" The second caliph pointed to Amir al-mu'minin Ali (as) who was present at the meeting and said: "Ask him." Ali (AS) said: "When the head of the Prophet (SAW) was placed on my shoulder, he was saying: Prayer, prayer." At that time, Ka'b said: "The previous prophets also adhered to this method (that is, they also instructed their ummah about prayer at the time of death)."

In the last moments of his life, the Prophet (peace be upon him) opened his eyes and said: "Call my brother so that he may come and sit beside my bed." Everyone understood that Ali was meant to say this. Ali (AS) came and sat beside his bed. He felt that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wanted to get out of bed. Ali (AS) lifted the Prophet from the bed and leaned on his chest and held him.

And just then the signs of giving up the last breath appeared in the holy body of the Prophet (peace be upon him). One man asked Ibn 'Abbas: "Whose chest did the Prophet (peace be upon him) breathe his last?" Then Ibn Abbas said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) laid his head on Ali's lap and breathed his last." The man said again: "Ayesha, the wife of the Prophet, claims that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) put his head on her chest and gave up his last breath." Ibn 'Abbas rejected Ayesha's statement: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) breathed his last in the lap of Hazrat Ali." And Ali and my brother Fazal gave him a bath. ”

Amir al-mu'minin Ali (a.s.) made this clear in one of his speeches:

"The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) put his head on my chest and breathed his last ... I bathed him and the angels helped me in that situation."

According to some narrators, the last thing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said at the last moment of his life was (not, but with the greatest friend) that the angel of revelation would cure him of a disease while capturing his soul He told the angel in this sentence that he wanted to go to the afterlife and live there with the people mentioned in the following verse, when God gave him the power to choose between capturing his soul and moving to another world (Baryakhe).

They are with those who have been blessed by God the Almighty; And these blessed people are the Prophets, the absolute truthful, the martyrs and the virtuous servants and what (good) good friends they are! ”

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said this and immediately his eyes and lips closed.

Day of death of the Prophet (peace be upon him)

The Holy Spirit of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) flew to his permanent abode on Monday afternoon, the 28th of Safar. His holy body was then covered with a Yemeni sheet and placed in a corner of the room for a short time. Hearing the lamentations of the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the cries of their close relatives, the people outside were convinced that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had passed away. In a very short time, the news of the demise of the Prophet (peace be upon him) spread throughout the city of Medina.

The second caliph, Umar, shouted outside the house for some reason: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not die, and he went to Allaah as great as Moses (peace be upon him)." Almost made. Meanwhile, a group of the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited the following verses to Umar:

“Muhammad is only the Messenger of Allah; Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you go back? ”

Amir al-mu'minin Ali (peace be upon him) bathed the holy body of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and put on the shroud. Because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The person closest to me will give me a bath." And this person was none other than Ali. However, he then unveiled the holy face of the Prophet. There were tears in his eyes. He was saying these words: “May my parents be sacrificed for you. Through your demise, the source of prophethood was severed and the revelation of the Almighty and the news of the heavens (of the upper world) ceased, which never ceased in the death of anyone else. If you had not called us to endure the unpleasant situation, I would have wept and shed so much tears at your separation that I would have dried up the source of the tears. But in this way our sorrow and grief will always exist. This amount of grief on your way is actually negligible and there is no other way. My parents sacrifice for you. Remember us in the Hereafter and remember us. ”

The first person to perform the janaza prayer of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was Amirul Muminin Ali (peace be upon him). Then the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) came in groups and performed his janaza prayer. The program continues till noon on Tuesday. Then it was decided that he would be buried in the room where the Prophet (peace be upon him) breathed his last. His graves were prepared by Abu Ubaidah ibn Jarrah and Zaid ibn Sahl. Hazrat Ali (AS), with the help of Fazil and Abbas, completed the burial of the Prophet (SAW).

As a result, the personality that changed the destiny of the human race through his relentless sacrifice and unveiled a new and bright chapter of civilization before them, his life-sun set. With his demise, many obstacles and problems arose in the way of continuing his great mission and fulfilling his great goal, the most obvious of which was the issue of Khilafah and the leadership of the Muslim Ummah. Even before the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the signs of discord and division among the Muslims became clear.

May Allah Almighty grant us all the grace to be full of the means of obedience and deep affection to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his holy Ahl al-Bayt.
