Cyber security experts have traced 5 Android applications that are spying on Pakistanis. According to Daily Pakistan Global, experts from cybersecurity firm Sophos Labs have said that these applications are fake versions of 5 well-known applications running in Pakistan.
These apps include Pakistan Citizen Portal, Pakistan Salat Time, Mobile Packages Pakistan, Registered Sims Checker and TPL Insurance. Sophos Labs experts Pankaj Kohli and Andrew Brandt said: "Fake versions of these apps secretly send their contact numbers, messages and other data from users' mobile phones to command and control websites in the form of a file. The servers of these websites are in Eastern Europe. One of the hallmarks of these fake apps, experts say, is that they access much more than real apps. The original application called 'Prayer Time' only asks for access to 'Storage' and that too with the permission of the user. While the fake version automatically accesses contact numbers, microphone, phone, SMS, storage, and location. be aware and don't provide personal data
