APPEARANCE ARE OFTEN DECEPTIVE The effect that means are often deceived by the false appreciation has given rise to the saying:
"All the glitters is not gold"
Appearance is indeed often deceptive Bright and pleasant -looking things may not be as good as they look. Brass may be polished up and made to look like gold in all its outer qualities.
In the modern age, most men are keen to examine and verify things for themselves because, to them, hearsay evidence is no evidence. They question everything and teach others to interrogate before accepting anything as true. All this is the outcome of the fact that modern people have repeatedly experienced that appearances are often deceptive. It does, however not mean that all men look at things with a scientifically critical eye but there is a general lack of Faith and Trust among modern people.
There are however certain reasons for the attitude of distrust. Man cannot trust his fellowmen blindly.
A wicked man may have a very pleasant and inboxent-looking there are so many wolves, among men, going about in sheep's clothing. There are selflessness and dishonesty among men even in the highest situation of life. In this context, Shakespeare has justly said :
"A man may smile and be a villain"
When a man's personal interests are in danger, he changes the outward appearance of personality and character; the softest paws are found to hide the sharpest claws. Neither things Norman is what the seems to us explaining this duality of human nature Pope refers to Bacon as:
"The wisest, brightest, and meanest of mankind"
During the course of our life, we often find that the pursuits of this world give us no lasting happiness. Ends and purpose that seem fair and attractive when far off, are found to be poor and empty when attained. We are therefore tempted to cry
"All is vanity"
It is thus rightly be said that we cannot trust appearance. Life will however be impossible if we do not trust anything or any person at all. Life demands faith and trust in all its spheres. We have to trust other men to some extent at last If all man lose their faith and trust in the world, human life on this earth will soon disappear.
