South African Neil McKenzie has confirmed to The Daily Star that he has resigned from his role as batting consultant for the Bangladesh national team.
"Yes I've resigned," he said when inquired about the matter. He cited that he wanted to spend time with his family and that was not being possible given the responsibility of being with the team in all formats
McKenzie had originally been drafted in back in 2018 as white-ball batting consultant. The BCB had urged that he join the Tigers for their upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka, slated to begin on October 24 with the team leaving for the island nation on the tentative date of September 23.
BCB had yesterday said they were waiting on McKenzie's confirmation regarding whether he will join the side for the Sri Lanka tour. McKenzie had however tendered his resignation.
"Only reason [for resignation] being time away from the family," he told The Daily Star.
"With Covid, the schedule and doing all formats, the tie away from my young family would be too much," he added.
The former South African had developed a bond with the Tigers and said: "I've loved being a part of the Tigers and will always have a soft spot for Bangladesh cricket and the great guys I've been fortunate to work with."
The South African also acknowledged Bangladesh as his 'second team'.
"Really enjoyed my time [in Bangladesh], people were really welcoming and the players made me a part of the team really quickly! Bangladesh is my second team," concluded McKenzie.
