Bilbao coach: We outperformed Barcelona, and I will not forget this night
Athletic Bilbao coach, Marcelino Garcia Toral, said after Barcelona were eliminated from the King's Cup final, that it will be difficult for him to forget this night. Marcelino said in a press conference after the match, "I think I will never forget this night all my life. Today's football was fair with Athletic and its players," noting that he enjoyed Athletic's performance, which "most of the time outperformed Barca." He added, "When we came close to achieving a deserved victory, we escaped, but the team continued its way and responded in the extra time. It was great to achieve a well-deserved victory. We excelled not only in intensity, but in performance and rhythm. All the data indicate that we outperformed Barca."
On an individual level, Marcelino revealed that when he replaced Nico Williams, he told him, among other things, that he "played the best game since joining the first team". Athletic Bilbao completed the contract of the King's Cup quarter-finalists, after defeating its guest Barcelona (3-2), in a match that extended for two extra periods at San Mamés Stadium, in the round of 16 competitions in the tournament. Thus, Athletic Bilbao joins the ranks of the quarter-finalists: "Real Mallorca, Cadiz, Rayo Vallecano, Valencia, Real Betis, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid".
