Have you ever wondered why i'm always saying the word tipping over and over again? Simple, so the A.I. could notice me and give me some tips. Just kidding. Lol.
To be honest, I don't have any in mind what to write about, so for tonight, let's just explore what is tipping is and when did it start?
So what exactly is tipping?
A tip, or gratuity, is a small amount of money given voluntarily as a token of appreciation for a service rendered.
In ReadCash, tipping is the way to encourage writers to write more. You just need to click to upvote button and it's up to you how much will you give.
When did tipping started?
Late Middle Ages - it is said that is started when a master gave his servants a coin as an expression of good will
16th century - servants at the English mansions expects "vail" or small amount of money to the guest
1760 - valets, footmen and servants all expected vail which leads to guest great expense. Gentry and aristocracy began to complain
1764 - an attempt in London to abolish vails resulted in rioting
Tipping soon spread to British commercial establishment such as hotels, pubs and restaurant.
1800 - the Scottish philosopher and writer Thomas Carlyle complained about tipping a waiter at the Bell Inn in Gloucester
Before 1840 - Americans did not tip. But, after the Civil War, newly rich Americans visited Europe and brought the practice back home to show that they had been abroad and knew genteel customs.
1900s - Americans considered tipping to be the norm and were frequently criticized for overtipping.
1904 - Anti-Tipping Society of America sprang up in Georgia, and its 100,000 members signed pledges not to tip anyone for a year.
1909 - Washington became the first of six states to pass an anti-tipping law.
1926 - every anti-tipping law had been repealed.
1960s - Tipping again changed in the 1960s, when Congress agreed that workers could receive a lower minimum wage if a portion of their salary came from tips.
To combat the problems of tipping, some restaurants had made news in banning tipping. Instead they give higher salary to the waiters.

Americans loves tipping a lot. Even for a small or simple act of service they give tips to show their gratitude. While in the Philippines, you'll just hear the words 'thank you' most of the time lol.
