Depression is a feeling of sadness, and in depression a patient loses interest in his/her favorite activities. Also called major depression disorder or clinical depression, it affects your feeling, thinking and behavior and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing daily routine activities, and sometimes you may feel like life isn't worth living. Depression is an ongoing problem, not a passer. Depression consists of consecutive stages during which symptoms last for at least 3 weeks. Depression can last for several weeks, months or years.

There may be many reasons for depression. Adverse events of life can increase a person's risk of depression or start an event of depression. Negative thoughts about yourself and the world are also important in creating and maintaining symptoms of depression. However, both psychological and biochemical procedures seem to be the main causes. The primary biochemical cause appears to be the defective code of neurotransmitter, especially norepinephrine and serotonin excretion, occurring in one or more naturally occurring brain Low intake of these chemicals in the brain or loss of activity is thought to occur in some patients in depressed mood.

If you have depression that lasts for 2 years or longer, it's called persistent depression disorder. This term is used to describe two conditions which were previously known as dysthymia (low level of permanent depression) and chronic major depression. Seasonal affective disorder is a period of great depression that often occurs during the winter months, when the days are shorter and you have less sunlight. It usually goes in spring and summer. Parental depression, or major depressive disorder with the onset of peri partum, occurs during pregnancy or within 4 weeks of childbirth. People can call it postpartum depression, but the term only applies to depression after birth. Parental depression can occur while you're pregnant.

Counseling or psychotherapy is talking to a mental health professional. Your consultant helps you to develop your problems solving and coping skills. Sometimes you need a short treatment. Other people continue therapy for a long time. There are many changes in lifestyle and stress management techniques that you can use to prevent or prevent depression.
