Different between Samsung galaxy A73 and A53
The Galaxy A73 is the top model of Samsung's new 2022 Galaxy A series trio, but there isn't much that distinguishes it from the Galaxy A53 5G.
At its 2022 Galaxy A series launch event, Samsung revealed that alongside the Galaxy A33 5G and Galaxy A53 5G, a third phone — the Galaxy A73 5G — will be available in select markets in April 2022. An official listing of the phone is already up, and it provides a chance to compare it to the Galaxy A53 5G. Samsung seems to be going all-in with 5G this year, unlike in 2021 when it announced 4G variants and 5G versions of its mid-range Galaxy A smartphones. Even the entry-level models are getting 5G support, such as the Galaxy A13 5G.
The mid-range segment is a highly competitive one that has Chinese brands such as OPPO, Xiaomi, Vivo and Realme announcing new phones practically every week. Unfortunately, many of these phones are not sold in the U.S., leaving buyers in this part of the world with limited options from Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and Google.
The Galaxy A73 5G and Galaxy A53 5G are practically cut from the same cloth. The display on both phones has a centered punch hole, and the rear cameras are not only the exact number but share the same arrangement. Where they begin to differ are in their dimensions and weight. The Galaxy A53 5G measures 159.6 × 74.8 × 8.1 mm compared to the Galaxy A73 5G's dimensions that are given as 163.7 × 76.1 × 7.6 mm. Although the dimensions show that the Galaxy A73 5G is the slimmer phone even though it is taller and wider, what is surprising is that it weighs even less at 181 grams against the Galaxy A53 5G's 189 grams weight. In addition, Samsung will sell the Galaxy A73 in Mint, White, and Black while the Galaxy A53 5G is available in Black, Blue, White and Peach.
Bigger Display, Better Camera
Both phones have a Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a 120Hz refresh rate, but the Galaxy A53 5G has a smaller 6.5-inch FHD than the Galaxy A73 5G's 6.7-inch screen. The spec sheet says the Galaxy A73 5G has an unnamed octa-core processor, with some of its cores clocked at 2.4GHz and others at 1.8GHz. On the other hand, the Galaxy A53 5G is powered by the 5nm Exynos 1280. Both phones come in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants with 128GB or 256GB of storage, respectively. They also have a MicroSD card slot for adding up to a terabyte of extra storage.
The camera department is another area Samsung tries to distinguish between both phones. On the back of the Galaxy A73 5G is a 108MP f/1.8 primary camera, while the main sensor on the Galaxy A53 5G is a 64MP f/1.8 camera. Both sensors have optical image stabilization, but the Galaxy A73 5G should be able to capture better images with more details and low noise, especially in low-light conditions. The rest of the cameras are the same on both phones — a 12MP ultrawide, a 5MP depth sensor, a 5MP macro camera, and a 32MP front-facing camera. In addition, the two devices have an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 5000mAh battery, support for 25W fast charging, and an IP67 water-resistance rating.
Samsung will ship both phones with One UI 4.1 based on Android 12, and it is expected that the Galaxy A73 5G will get the same duration of software support as the Galaxy A53 5G. The Galaxy A73 5G price is yet to be revealed (it won't be sold in the U.S.), but it should cost more than the $449 starting price of the Galaxy A53 5G thanks to its bigger display and higher resolution camera
