Axie Infinity Season 20 has started!
After more than a month of waiting, the long-awaited Axie Infinity season 20 has finally arrived. Since December, Sky Mavis's founders announced that they were studying solutions to improve Axie Infinity's economic ecosystem and that they would implement them from the beginning of season 20.
The main problem Axie Infinity had was the inflation in the production of its in-game token Smooth Love Potion (SLP), since according to Sky Mavis' report more than 230 million SLP were being produced daily, while the daily SLP burn was approximately 45 million.
The distribution of SLP production was not healthy for Axie Infinity's economy in terms of maintaining a long-term project, since almost 45% of the production came from the Adventure Mode, which is the PvE mode, while more than 20 million SLP were produced through the Daily Quest.
Therefore, the Sky Mavis team realized that they had to take drastic measures to have a stable economic ecosystem in the future. Therefore, they have completely removed the SLP gain from the Adventure Mode and the Daily Quest. In the first instance, this measure reduces the daily SLP production by more than 55% and solves the problem with the bot farms since they will not earn anything in the Adventure Mode.
In addition, they have reduced the SLP earnings in Arena Mode (PvP), with which they seek to achieve a balance between the amount produced and burned. However, they have removed the restriction that did not allow you to earn SLP if you had an MMR below 800. Below is the table with the new SLP gain ranges in Arena Mode:
0-999: 1 SLP per victory
1000-1099: 3 SLP per victory
1100-1299: 5 SLP per victory
1300-1499: 6 SLP per victory
1500-1799: 8 SLP per victory
1800-1999: 10 SLP per win
2000 - 2499: 12 SLP per victory
2500: 14 SLP per win
However, to further incentivize the community, they have expanded the AXS rewards this season, rewarding the top 300,000 players with a prize pool valued today at over 6 million dollars (117,676 AXS). It should be noted that in Season 19, AXS was only awarded to the top 1000 players.
Although season 20 has revolutionized the Axie Infinity economy, the reality is that we must wait at least 15 days to see the real impact it will have, given that the increase in the price of SLP these days has been due to speculation by the community. In the coming weeks, we will see if the daily SLP burn is equal to or greater than the daily production and if a real demand for SLP is achieved that is healthy for Axie Infinity's economy.
