Hi guys. I'm @Ashutosh.S . This article is about the conditions in Assam India due to the floods that recently hit there.
As of yesterday, 260 thousand people are affected and 90+ deaths are confirmed. And the situation gives no indication of loosing intensity in the near future. Almost 64 districts have been affected by the floods.
And this is not just about India. It has hit Bangladesh as well with the same intensity. Few of my friends from Bangladesh tell me the situation is worse. People are suffering a lot and there's no beam of hope.
That area is manly cultivable. Crops like rice, tea and jute are grown there by farmers. Since all the rivers drain from that area into bay of Bengal, it's land of high fertility with suitable environment for rice paddies.
But flood washed everything away. The crops that have been cultivated by farmers for almost an year, just got destroyed before harvestation. What are the farmers supposed to do now?
The government is trying their utmost to help the people. Rescue operations are being carried out. In fact Orissa was 90% flood prepared before the flood actually hit the land. Still we're seeing chaos and Havoc everywhere.
The covid outbreak made the farmers run out of their money and now the flood is going to kill them. They are just not in a position to sustain this blow. Can you imagine how much helplessness they feel right now? Having no money, no land, no house. It's just terrifying.
The rainfall that started on July 12 hasn't stopped since, causing the river Brahmaputra to overflow like hell. It's like the second biggest river in India which does not even start in India. And if that river overflows, you can imagine how much capacity it has to cause Havoc. And that is exactly what happened in eastern India.
Almost 1.9 million people had to leave their home. They don't have a shelter. The state government built 500 refugee camps in which almost 118 thousand people are residing.
We can't do anything but pray. Sure we can donate a little. That's all we can do and as humans we should do our least bit. Let's pray together for the people who were affected due to the flood and hope for their speedy recovery ❤️🙏.
