The legend of Green Man's Tunnel is popular folklore in western PA. Like many of these sorts of stories, there are many variations. The most popular places Green Man's Tunnel in South Park Township along Piney Fork Rd. It is an abandoned railroad tunnel, which is now used by the township for winter salt storage. As the story goes, a railroad worker was electrocuted in the tunnel while servicing some lines. If you go there are night, you may see the green figure of a man, still glowing from the electrocution. Another version states that the man was struck by lightening. Either way, you don't want to meet up with the Green Man! These stories became popular during World War II when western Pennsylvania soldiers shared the tale with their buddies.

However, this story is based in truth! Ray Robinson aka "Charlie No Face" aka "Green Man" lived in Koppel, PA in Beaver County. When he was 12, he came into contact with electrical lines while trying to see a birds nest. He was not expected to live, but he did. As a result of the accident, he lost both of his eyes, nose, one ear and an arm. Due to his disfigurement, he did not go out in public, as his horrid appearance caused panic in the general population. He did walk at night, though, and could be seen on rt 351 in Beaver. He died at the age of 74.
