What to do when you feel depressed…

So many people suffer from this feeling called depression.It comes in different ways , it also comes as a result of different occurrence.

There are different causes and ways to know when a person is depressed and how to advice the person aright because, we all are vulnerable.  

Most people don’t know when they are feeling depressed, some don’t know the meaning so I thought about breaking it down.

  How do you know that you’re going through the feeling of depression??

Depression is a feeling of severe despondency and dejection.Further more, it’s a feeling of pensive sadness, typically with no obvious cause therefore self-doubt creeps in and that swiftly turns to depression.

These are significant and helpful points to detect when a person is going through depression.

What are the causes of depression?

Have you ever wondered what causes depression? Here are some reasons,ofcourse there are a lot more reasons, I just want to shed a little light on the rampant ones in this modern day community.

  • Abuse: This is a rampant and major cause of most depression cases .Physical, sexual, or emotional abuse can make you more vulnerable to depression later in life.

  • Peer pressure: This happens when you’re being oppressed by your peer group for instance, seeing your friends living the life .

  • Life expectancy: As a youth , the rate at which we’re being rushed by the environment tells a lot about how depressed we feel when we fail at any stage or when we are not being catalyzed the way we expect , etc.

  • Social media; some oppression and depression these days are caused from Social media. When you see your age-mate/schoolmate attaining a particular level of achievement which you haven’t, it causes you to think of your life which makes you want to ask yourself different questions thereby, making you feel like you’re not putting enough effort or you’re not doing what he/she is doing . This thoughts will keep coming in alongside creepy thoughts to.

Symptoms of Depression


These are Ways  to know that you’re depressed ;

  • Trouble getting to sleep or feeling sleepy during the day.

  • Feeling restless and agitated, or else very sluggish and slowed down physically or mentally.

  • Being tired and without energy.

  • Feeling worthless or guilty.

  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions.

  • Thoughts of suicide.

  • You feel intensely sad and lose interest in the activities you used to enjoy. 

  • You feel bad even when good things happen.

  • Change in appetite .

Ways to avoid and reduce the feeling of depression .

If you find yourself feeling in any way as listed above , pay rapt attention to this….


These procedures helps a lot in uplifting the inner spirit of a person;

  • Meditate/Pray

    when you’re going through oppression, a good suggestion is to draw near to God, meditate on the word and pray also.

  • Spend Time with Positive People

    Spending quality time with positive minded people will help shift your thoughts from harmful thoughts like giving up and tilts your thoughts to working on making yourself a better person.

  • Exercise

    Exercises helps to build both the inner and outer body. It works strongly on the mind.

  • Gratitude

    A content person will be satisfied with what he/she has. So is someone that is grateful for whatever he has achieved.

  • Do something you love

    Do what you love doing the most(Something positive), especially something that makes you happy and don’t let anyone talk you out of it .

  • Learn something new:

    When the body and the brain is busy, there won’t be anytime to self-judge .

  • Sleep 

    Get regular amount of Rest, it help to settle the body, the brain and mind. It gives the energy to fight again.

  • Music 

    Most people love music, for some people it’s a “run to” when they undergo oppression. Try it.

  • If you’re are at the edge of things, avoid social media for a while and focus on working on yourself.

N:B ; Not everyone going through depression have it always written on their faces , talk to somebody today.

Like you have rightly said,depression is not written on the forehead,we need to talk to people if we sense any changes in their lifestyle or mood. All the points you have listed are correct. Nice one bro
