A new strain of coronavirus found in the UK, which is also present in Bangladesh, was reported in several media outlets on Thursday.
The BCSIR chairman told bdnews24.com that they were conducting a study on the issue, but it was not yet time to reach a decision.
"It simply came to our notice then. There is no need to say anything that creates panic. ”
Last September, a new strain of the highly contagious coronavirus was found in the United Kingdom, which is now spreading rapidly in several parts of England, including London. That variant of the virus has already reached several countries, including Australia and the Netherlands.
In this situation, more than 40 countries, including European neighbors, have banned the entry of UK citizens.
BCSIR Chief Scientific Officer of the Department of Biological Research. Selim Khan was quoted in several media reports on Thursday as saying that in early November, the Bangladesh Council of Science and Industry researched the genome sequencing of five samples of coronavirus. The coronavirus in the UK has a similarity to the mutations found in it.
Professor Aftab Ali, chairman of the council, said, “Selim Khan has gone to Sylhet on a mission. Returning from there. I will talk to him about it when I return. ”
Later, Aftab Ali Sheikh told reporters that the work of genome sequencing has come a long way. Journalists will be called soon and the final results will be announced.
"We will not be able to inform you until the full results come out. However, we said in the conference on September 8 about the mutation rate,… You are concerned, our scientists are trying to do that. We will inform you as soon as we get the result. ”
The BCSIR chairman said he did not know how the information about the genome sequencing of the five samples came to the media.
"I do not know where you came from. We always call you and let you know the result. You will know when we disclose the final result. ”
However, the new research is being done with samples collected from new patients, he said.

It is a matter of great concern that a new type of corona virus is being detected in Bangladesh like in other countries. I don't know what will happen in the future. The news has been circulating in various media for some time now that the currently invented vaccine will actually be effective for this or not. Hopefully God will help us and save us.
