Due to social barriers and religious prejudices, the victims are not getting relief from corneal blindness. Although many people donate corneas while they are alive, the leaders of the society sometimes stand in the way of their families after death. Experts are urged to facilitate the cornea replacement process by creating awareness as well as adding new sections to the Organ Transplantation Act.

Monica Begum has been blind for 20 years in two corneas donated posthumously. Ever since he regained his sight, he has been engaged in the service of eye patients. Monica Begum is now the beacon of peace for the souls of the providers of light.

Monica Begum said, the two who gave me the cornea; They have left the world. Today I see the light of day for these two great men. It's just that I understand how much is available for me. Blind life is a lot of trouble, it should not happen to anyone.

In the last 3 decades, Sandhani National Ophthalmology Society has been able to replace only 3 and a half thousand corneas for free.

On the other hand, Ispahani Islamia Hospital has restored the eyesight of 1,900 people in 11 years at a cost of Rs 40,000 each. As the cornea collected within 6 hours of death became effective, the President of the National Eye Donation Association, Prof. Dr. seeking advice to add a new section to the existing law. Tosaddek Hossain Siddiqui Jamal.

"We can collect corneas from the patients who go to the morgue," he said.

Many people are afraid of post-mortem examination due to the misconception that the eyes of the deceased are completely removed. In addition, even if someone donates eyes, the family does not agree after death. Therefore, experts are talking about the need for massive public awareness like blood donation.

Professor Dr. Mostafizur Rahman said, "In many ways, we will take our eyes off it, but it is not." Just a little screen in front is taken. Then I close it. And it has to be removed within six hours of death. Otherwise it doesn't work.

Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital, Assistant Professor of Cornea. Mohammad Rashed Alam said that this thing is well understood because of Corona, because what America gives us is at a nominal price. It costs them a lot to process it. If we have to buy it; Then it will take from one and a half thousand dollars to two thousand dollars.

More than 5 lakh people are suffering from corneal blindness in the country. With this, thousands more are falling victim to blindness every year. So the only option to turn the light on the eyes of a large number of people is post-mortem.
