Religious education

Introduction: At one time, the discipline of religious institutions was considered as the principle of education. Transcendental meditation was more important than intellectual thought. Gradually, the aspect of intellectual knowledge became important from a religious point of view. The main goal of post-Renaissance modern education is the overall development of the human body and mind. In many countries, education is considered a secular social issue. Many educational institutions are running in our country in favor of religious institutions. Madrasa education is introduced as a separate education system. Along with that modern education is also going on. He did not exclude religious education in modern education. But in spite of this, when illiteracy is spreading in the name of education in the country, education is being used as a way to protect personal interests and achieve religious interests, then we have to think in a new way about religious education. As the educated society is becoming self-centered, selfish, enjoyable and detached from morality, there is a need to re-evaluate the significance of religious education in the present education system. In the context of the massive moral decay that is taking place in the educated middle class society of our country today, there is a need for constructive thinking about social education as well as religious education.

Religious Education and Moral Values: Many would agree that the lack of true religious knowledge is at the root of moral decay in our sensitive country. Lack of education like real discipline of religion and understanding of real ideology is also a helpful factor in this case. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), Jesus Christ, Gautama Buddha, Sri Krishna and other religious preachers have conveyed to the people the great message of justice and human values. Many people are misleading people by misinterpreting religion for their own benefit. The use of religion for business and political purposes is also in the history of this country. As a result, people are moving away from the liberal ideals of religious justice.

Negative aspects of individual religious education: People of different religions like Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians etc. live in our country. All of them have equal rights in the abhorrent tradition, culture, values and sense of life of this country. Historically, Bangladesh has also carried the tradition of communal harmony. But in the existing religious education in our country, only the religious feeling of one's own religion is taught. Attempts are made to keep a complete blind eye to the ideals and doctrines of other religions. This can subconsciously create a sense of religious individuality and narrowness among the students. But it cannot be the norm of modern education. Because in modern times, religious education does not mean confining education to any particular religion, just as any education here cannot be conducive to social progress if it is confined to the narrow confines of religion. At the same time, it should be kept in mind that every religion gives importance to education. Morality, honesty, tolerance, generosity, human love, human welfare are matters to be observed and taught in every religion. In that judgment, it would be beneficial for the society in general if the student was introduced to the aspects of moral education of all religions as a helper of modern education instead of religion-centered education. Even those who only want to take religious education as a special subject need to acquire deep knowledge about religions other than their own.

The essence and teachings of different religions: Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian - all religions have guidelines on worldly life, sinfulness, good-evil, holy-impure. No religion condones injustice and crime. In Islam, there is a guideline to make people's worldly and otherworldly life happy, peaceful and benevolent and orderly. Islam says that if the worldly life of man is beautiful, peaceful and holy, then the worldly life will also be eternal peace and happiness. Islam calls on the world to move forward on the path of justice, true welfare, brotherhood, peace and generosity. In the Vedas and Upanishads of Hinduism, there are many directions of devotion and action for the absolute welfare of the people. In Buddhism, the ideals of love, non-violence and compassion for living beings have been presented to the people. In this religion, it is said that the way to overcome violence is not violence, but love. Christianity calls on people to be kind, tolerant, and forgiving. Human love for human beings is recognized as the great ideal of this religion. Familiarity with these great ideals and guidelines of different religions will not only help in shaping the moral values of the students but will also strengthen the bonds of harmony in the social life.

Conclusion: The essence of religious education is not the teaching of religious orthodoxy or bigotry - the teaching of establishing justice, human values and great ideals in social life. Religion can play a helpful and positive role in building a life of peace, harmony and welfare, creating trust and confidence in people, avoiding divisions and violence, and resilience against social crime, corruption, injustice and injustice. In this way, religious education can play an effective role in protecting the society from mental degradation.
