Tree planting campaign / forest conservation

Introduction:

"There are no trees, no life, the treeless world is like a lifeless mahasmasana."

Our world is a sweet abode of infinite beauty. The life-giving Briraji has filled this world with greenery. The contribution of trees in keeping the world cool and livable is undeniable. Again, trees meet most of the basic human needs for a good life. So the need for trees in human life is immense.

"Give it back to the forest, take it to the city"

- The poet's longing has turned into tears in the forest today. Because the forest is rapidly being depleted by the blows of human ax. This is a suicidal act of human beings. Forests of Bangladesh: In this country of natural pastimes, forest lands have been created in various forms. The forests of Bangladesh are mainly divided into three parts. E.g .:

1. Tropical evergreen forest

2. Shalban forest and

3. Current forest

Tropical evergreen forests cover an area of 15,000 sq km in Chittagong, Hill Districts and Sylhet. Shalban covers an area of one thousand square kilometers in Bhawal and Madhupur and a large area in Mymensingh, Gazipur, Tangail, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Comilla. And the Sundarbans, which covers a wide area along the southern coast of the country, is a flowing forest.

Amount of forest land in Bangladesh: In order to maintain the natural balance of a country, it is necessary to have 25% forest land. But it is very unfortunate that our country has only 16% of the total land area which is very insufficient compared to the needs of the country. However, according to the government, the actual forest cover is only 9%, and only 5% according to the World Research Institute. The forest cover in the north and northeast of the country is only 3.5%. Therefore, natural disasters have already occurred in Bangladesh. The country is not getting rain on time and untimely rainfall, floods, cyclones, tidal surges etc. have become a matter of routine. As a result of indiscriminate deforestation, the greenhouse effect has occurred not only in Bangladesh but also in the world.

The need for affore

station or trees: According to the World Research Institute, deforestation has halved in the world. As a result, the global environment is under threat. There is a great need for trees from birth to death for humans and animals. That is why the tree is called the shadow of human life. The tree is our silent friend, one can understand how much he is always benefiting us. Directly or indirectly, the tree has kept us alive. Below are some aspects of tree requirements:

Trees feed the animal kingdom. Humans and animals feed on the flowers and leaves of trees.

Trees absorb toxic carbon dioxide from all living things and provide life-saving oxygen. As a result, animals can survive in this world.

We get to be wood trees for heat production, cooking and other fuels.

Trees give us wood to build furniture, houses, boats, ships, dams, bridges, etc.

The tree is used to make paper pulp and rayon raw materials and matches.

Honey and beeswax are collected from the forest.

Plants control the climate and climate of the country.

Plants help increase productivity by increasing the fertility of the land.

The vegetation protects the river from erosion, rainfall and water-swelling. This maintains stability in the soil.

Trees protect homes from storms and other natural disasters.

Trees donate various medicines to save our lives.

Tree Planting Campaign: Tree planting campaign is conducted in our country every year for the preservation and expansion of forest resources. The campaign lasts for weeks, fortnights or months. At this time trees are planted in a planned way. Usually during the monsoon season, tree planting campaigns are carried out at the initiative of the forest department of the government. At this time people can collect saplings from the nearest nursery for free or at low cost. During the campaign, we were taught about the need for trees in our lives and how to plant saplings through various campaigns. Undoubtedly the tree planting campaign is a great effort.

Tree planting program and steps taken: Bangladesh has been carrying out tree planting program since independence in 1971. Various programs have been adopted at government and private levels. Notable among these is the 'Community Forestry' program adopted by the Forest Department in 1982 in the greater Rajshahi, Rangpur and Dinajpur districts of the northern region. 6,000 villages were brought under this program. In 1986-8, 'Thana Forestry and Nursery Development Project' was undertaken in 61 districts of the country and to create awareness about forestry, 60,000 people were trained in different periods and 70 million saplings were distributed among the people. There has been a massive response to this afforestation in coastal chars, on all sides of highways, along railway tracks and in dam areas. Since the planting of mangrove trees in the coastal islands in 1998, afforestation has already been completed in 130,000 hectares of land. The government is still taking various steps to increase afforestation.

Ways of afforestation: The potential for afforestation in Bangladesh is huge. In many ways this afforestation is possible. One approach is: Social Forest Development Program. The goal is to get the public to actively participate in roadside tree planting. There should be economic incentives for the people to join this program spontaneously. Moreover, different varieties of trees should be planted by mixing so that the villagers can procure food, fruits, fuel etc. Another option is to provide additional income to forestry workers. In addition to providing direct loans, subsidies and grants, supply of free seeds and saplings, assistance related to afforestation, fertilizers, food etc., crop sharing etc. Village organizations headed by ward members and consisting of teachers, social workers, imams of mosques etc. can meet the requirements of this afforestation. This organization will supervise all the issues related to social forestry and afforestation with government and non-government departments and will involve the people of the village in forestry on family basis. For example, families living in the vicinity of dams, roads, railways, canals, khas ponds, khas lands, etc. will be allotted a certain amount of space. According to the plan and under public-private assistance, they will take charge of tree planting and maintenance and they will get a share of the income from this as per the prescribed rules. In this way, the families who live in the vicinity of the vacant lands will be involved in afforestation.

Disadvantages of Treelessness: The region of Africa is a burning example of the horrors of deforestation. People in treeless, waterless areas have moved to other areas. There has been an adverse reaction in Bangladesh as well. Heavy rains, droughts, cyclones, tidal surges are inevitable. As a result of indiscriminate deforestation, the greenhouse reaction has occurred not only in Bangladesh but also in the world. The world environment is in turmoil and under threat today.

Conclusion: There is no denying that the country will not become green just by observing the tree planting week and doing public service by beating the drums. This program has been observed since the independence of the country. But the tree planting campaign is not as expected yet. In order to make it a success, a comprehensive program must be undertaken across the country. Even in school-college textbooks it is necessary to compose essays at a higher rate indicating its importance.
