Introduction: Character is a force, an aspect of personality that is closely associated with the principles of justice and moral conduct. A person's nature can have both good and bad sides. He is known as a bitch when the scale of evil is heavy. On the other hand, we understand him to be honest and just. Strength of heart, perseverance, etc. are also part of good character. Personality is formed according to the character which has an effect on the environment and social life.

What is a character: The word character is synonymous with the English word ‘character’ but it originally came from the Greek. Although it originally meant 'sign', the word has been used for about two and a half thousand years to denote the excellence of one's behavior and ideals.

There are two aspects to character formation. Virtuous and wicked. Character is a combination of various virtues. And if the hidden inferiority or bestiality in man is the main feature of the character, then that character is the villain. Character is one of the most valuable and indestructible resources of human life. He who possesses an honest character is the best ornament of the society and a shining lamp. This is why the character is called the crown of life. Just as the crown enhances the beauty of the emperor, so the character enhances the beauty of human life. Honesty, kindness, sensitivity, righteousness, forgiveness, generosity, dutifulness, devotion to the elders, mentality and self-control are the signs of virtue. He who is virtuous never deviates from the path of truth, nor does he indulge in injustice. He carefully avoids anger, arrogance, rudeness, and so on. He became truthful, moderate and just. Characteristic people are the wealth of the nation as all human qualities develop.

Importance of character formation: It is difficult to express in words the value and importance of character in human life. Only in the power and influence of character can man be world-class and ever-memorable. The value of knowledge in human life is immense. But character is often given more importance than knowledge. There is a proverb-

"Even if it is evil, it is abandoned."

Because, if a learned person is bad, it is not good for the society but bad for him. A well-known memorable quote in this regard:

"People can be immortal without the interest of immortality only by virtue of character."

Therefore, the development of character should be the goal of man. It is the desire of man to make himself pure and improved in the world. It is not only character that determines a person's way of life, it is character that determines a person's destiny in a sense.

The goal of character building education: The goal of character building education is to develop the will and ability of the individual to follow socially accepted behavior in the power of reason. The following aspects need to be given importance in education in developing the character traits of a person.

1. Patience, courage, loyalty, honesty, courtesy, reliability, gratitude, easy-going, benevolence, etc. as a combination of human qualities;

2. Overall conduct, discipline, punctuality, tolerance, etiquette, etc .;

3. Patriotism, secularism, sense of nationalism, international brotherhood, humanism, etc. are organized emotions;

4. Avoiding violence, hatred, crookedness, etc., and suppressing bad habits or instincts;

5. Adoption of human qualities such as justice, human welfare, charitable deeds etc. as the driving force of life. Nevertheless, special emphasis has been placed on character building in institutional education since time immemorial. In this case two methods are followed; Direct and indirect. Emphasis is placed on direct methods: education of justice, formation of moral values; Interest in the qualities of work, honesty, beauty, courtesy, gratitude, etc .; Creating awareness towards animals and protection of environment. The aim of the direct approach as a whole is to help the person develop character traits and good habits.

The indirect method of character building is to create everyday behaviors and values ​​through lessons from history, life and literature. Thus ideal ideas are created in the minds of the students about the noble character.

In addition to the role of parents and neighbors in character building, involvement with organizations like Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Red Cross, etc. is important. Through voluntary organization, people can feel the importance and joy of joint work.

Character formation in childhood: In order for the character of the child to be clear and transparent, it is necessary to create a conducive environment along with the parents in appropriate teaching. When a child is encouraged to be creative, he develops creative talents. If you want to bring together great qualities in the life of a child, you need honest company. If parents, companions, and relatives do not possess honest character, the virtues of virtue in the child cannot be firmly established in their company.

In addition to the family environment, the influence of school life and teachers on the moral development of the child is important. The job of the teacher is to give good education to the child. It is their responsibility to bring together the great qualities of the students. Nowadays, media like television and satellite channels are playing a far-reaching role in shaping the good and bad character of a child. The programs that are aired on different channels of the satellite also include programs that are not suitable for children. Children are naturally attracted to television programs. Therefore, parents must pay attention so that the character of their children is not adversely affected by the bad rituals. For this reason, entertainment programs with murders, fights and gross perverted tastes have a detrimental effect on the child's character formation. So the child should be prevented from watching such programs.

But above all, the thing that the guardian has to pay special attention to is honest company. Many potential talents fall prematurely in the company of Kusang and are lost in the dark. There is a proverb about this- ‘Heaven with the righteous, defeat with the wicked.’ Therefore, the parent needs to be careful in choosing the child's partner and friend.

The pursuit of character building: The person's own pursuit of character formation is no less important. Greed, lust, and the lure of evil tendencies lead people to sin. By acquiring the power to conquer greed by avoiding these sinful paths with caution and determination, one can proceed to the formation of good character only by burning the ideal of character as a torch and engaging in the pursuit of a better life. When character is lost everything is lost.

That is, money can be gained by losing money, health can be recovered by losing it, but it cannot be regained by losing character. Therefore, in order to be entitled to humanity, one has to develop a beautiful, pure and clean character.

Example of great character: Those who have been remembered forever in the world were strong in character. No temptation could lead them astray to the path of justice and truth. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is a shining example of such a character. He has fought all his life against injustice, untruth and sin. Throughout the ages, everyone was humane, had a good character. Vidyasagar, Rammohun, Rabindranath, Mahatma Gandhi, Sher-e-Bangla Fazlul Haque, Dr. Like Muhammad Shahidullah, Maulana Bhasani, human beings, socialites, patriots, great souls all have a deceitful and noble character. The people of the world have shed tears over the death of so many more great characters. Remembering the glory of their lives, the poet wrote-

Such a life will be formed

Bhuban will laugh at death and cry. '

A person of good character, though poor in wealth, knowledge and family status, is great in glory. That is why the sublime statement says:

"The glory of the king is in wealth, but the glory of the charismatic is in the heart."

Conclusion: In today's world of consumerism, the erosion of values ​​is on the rise. People are sitting to lose the power of character. Gradually sinking into the abyss of the darkness of immoral life. In this situation we want a renaissance of character in national life. The generation that has lost character has nothing to hope for. But the new generation must grow by acquiring great power of character. Only then will our future be beautiful.
