WORK: PART TWO!

The most contentious issue in most societies is the issue of wealth redistribution. By design, wealth is more concentrated in the hands of a few people. The few people have always resisted any attempts to redistribute wealth (usually through legislations that increase their tax obligations, wages paid to their employees, and other artificial barriers that promote inequalities), arguing that those legislations will discourage employers (them) from hiring more people (us). It's always us versus them. They ask us to sacrifice more, promoting a rejected philosophy that "you should love what you do," but they should be more REWARDED for what you do. Liberal economists have rejected their self-serving philosophy. Don't allow pittance to trickle down: demand a fair share. Think like them: sure, you love what you do, but you also DESERVE to share in the profits they make. They've successfully ingrained their misleading (self-serving) narrative about the nature of work in us to the extent that most people, even well-educated people, have aligned with their rejected philosophy. When I'm reviewing a salary structure for new startups, I see new requests from modern workers: they want to peg their compensations to the fortune of the startups. Sure, not everyone can operate from that position of strength, but economists are telling smart workers to do their research, probing into how much similarly situated colleagues are making for doing the same job, and helping them in negotiating a commensurate pay with their employers. Finally, it's now illegal in some states for employers to ask you how much you made in your previous employment (that question is extremely prejudicial): what if you were poorly paid by your previous employer? It's not just about loving what you do, for it's about understanding your rights and other complex discussions surrounding these complex issues. Let me stop there for now. Keep taking affirmative steps.
