At law, a criminal accomplice is different from a co-conspirator. When we talk about taking affirmative steps (actus reus), we are referring to what a co-conspirator must do. In the case of an accomplice, he assists and encourages a crime but does not commit the actus reus ('ko gbe body e'). Based on his words alone, he will be found guilty of an underlying crime.
Hypothetical: Kazeem and Yusuf, two notorious armed robbers, sought Prophet Elijah's prayers for their upcoming operation: an armed robbery of a palliative center. Prophet Elijah gave them clear instructions: on the day of the robbery, wear white garments ONLY and use my anointing oil, which I received from Ori Oke Sapati.
Two days after the robbery, Mr. Saheed, a brilliant detective, arrested both Kazeem and Yusuf at a carnival in Oshodi. During a custodial interrogation, he found out about the role of Prophet Elijah. Even though Prophet Elijah did NOT follow them to the crime scene, he will be found GUILTY of the underlying crime: ARMED ROBBERY.
