It is an International treaty comes on May 2001 and after 3 year it effectively force into May 2004. Basically it is an International convention to treat the persistent organic pollutants which are present in our environment
As pollutants are those chemical which enter into the environment and has an adverse effects on human health and wild life. They are called persistent organic pollutants due to following properties.
They are toxic
They have long range
They contaminate the food through food web
They are present everywhere like soil,air,water etc.
Stockholm which is the capital of Sweden made different steps to reduce the use of Persistent Organic pollutants. They are produced intentionally and Un-intentially and also through by-product.
DDT is one of them which is more dangerous to health. Would health organization made an different rules for the use of DDT under Stockholm convention.
If one country want to use DDT should take an permission from WHO.
If one country use DDT for three years also gives an report to WHO.
This convention has an basic aim to eliminate the persistent organic pollutants.
