Various Competitions and the Excitement of Climbing Areca Nut and Their Social Meaning

August is a historic month for my country Indonesia. After Sukarno proclaimed Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945.

A historic event, freed from the grip of colonialists for several centuries who wanted to control and own Indonesian land. Therefore, 17 August is designated as a national day which is always greeted with festivities throughout the archipelago, from Sabang to Merauke with various forms of festivities. Both formal events in government and non-formal in remote areas with a model of lively activities and types of fun competitions.

One of them is the climbing areca nut competition which is never absent in a series of activities, which the committee is usually carried out by young people.

The excitement and enthusiasm of the community is clearly seen in August every 17th, precisely this year 2022 falls on Wednesday. Incidentally, I myself am still included in the committee, of course I have my own experience as an event organizer.

Although the Augustan event in the end was carried out well and successfully carried out. The key lies in the commitment and consistency of the committee. Cooperation, mutual trust, patience, unselfishness, etc. which sometimes makes members not cooperate with each other. In addition, there are various preparatory steps, namely careful planning before implementation.

Starting from deliberations on the formation of the committee, meetings, schedule of events, schedule of activities, event rundown and sources of activity funds, as well as things in the form of tools that need to be prepared and available by the committee.

Which sometimes without a mature plan will end in the failure of the 17's event implementation. Because they consider it trivial and do not sit together among the committee in preparing the agenda for the event. Maybe this annual routine is less successful without preparation in one's view.

Back to the context above, which is often seen in the 17's activities, namely the Panjat Pinang (climbing areca nut) competition, which is fun and lively.

Inviting a sense of laughter and humor when you see the participants who follow it. But on the other hand, of course there are social meanings and moral messages in this competition, including:

1. Cohesiveness in the team, those below support those above to rise to reach the top of the areca nut. And those who try their best to achieve the team's expectations by completing the team's wishes. Unity and cooperation is the key.

2. Develop the best tips and tactics in the team, compete with other teams in a sporting manner.

3. And trust each other and stay away from blaming each other.
