The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) probably preferred fresh dates to dried dates. For example, during Iftar in the month of Ramadan, he used to eat fresh dates most of the day. But when it was not there, he ate dried dates.

He also used dates in his wedding reception. He kept dates to entertain the guests at his marriage to Hazrat Safia.
