Stories of amazing plane crash rescues quickly become famous. Such was the case with Walter White, Jr. when he survived in the open ocean among sharks and fought courageously for life for 15 hours while waiting for rescuers.
Just a compass and a radio
The hero of this story is a flight engineer on a flight from Nassau to Miami. He was the only other person on board the small plane. The December weather failed the intrepid pilot, and the flying machine had no navigation systems.
The flight was based on the operation of a radio and a small hand-held compass. A storm that suddenly began ruined the compass and threw the pilot off course. White immediately sent a distress signal, but the rescue plane was also off course due to the storm. The planes didn't meet up until an hour later, when White's car was already experiencing engine trouble.
Didn't make it.
The nearest landing strip was only 10 kilometers from the location, but the plane's engine failed and stalled. A rescue plane watched as the Beechcraft crashed into the water, but could do nothing to help. After making several circles over the crash site, rescuers found no sign of the pilot. The rescuers' plane's fuel tanks were empty, so they went to refuel.
After the plane crashed, White hit the dashboard and lost consciousness. When the pilot regained consciousness, he climbed out onto the roof of the aircraft, pulled out his life jacket and fired the flares. But they did not work. "The Falcon did not notice the surviving flight engineer.
Sharks and cold.
Unfortunately, the plane sank very quickly, leaving Walter alone in the middle of the ocean. The water was cold and left almost no chance of survival. Walter tried to swim to the nearest island, but lost his bearings. The vest chambers were beginning to deflate. To make matters worse, the pilot's forehead was oozing blood, attracting sharks in the area. They circled around Walter, waiting for the right moment to hunt.
"The Falcon returned to the crash site accompanied by a military helicopter, but was ordered to return as the entire crew was in danger from the storm. The rescue operation was postponed until the morning.
Only the heels of the predators
Walter, on the other hand, was freezing and waiting for the sharks to attack. He took off his vest and lay down on it. The pilot fought off the sharks with his heels, which managed to scare off the predators. At dawn, rescuers returned for the exhausted pilot, who bravely fought for life in the open ocean for 15 hours.
Self-possession helped more than just Walter White Jr. survive. In 2001, Matt Lehtinen's plane crashed into a forest thicket. But the pilot managed to save himself and even filmed the entire process, thanks to which he became famous online.
