Chapter 1

Chapter 2: Where the Hell....o there are we?

The first sign of consciousness Shake became aware of was pain exploding into his brain. This was followed instantly by a gut wrenching fear. He opened his eyes screaming “Eagle!!!” which came out more like a primordial roar than anything intelligible.

It took a few moments for his brain to catch up with his senses but eventually everything coalesced into the cockpit of the SS Home. As he realized that he wrenched himself out of the seat and sprinted as fast as he could to Eagle's room. Recognizing him as he approached the door to the room opened and reveled a happy as ever 3 year old playing with a red race shuttle and a rusty old tow hauler.

The guy looked up happily yelling “DADDYYYYYYY” while flinging the toys aside and raising his arms towards Shake. Scooping his son up in his arms and hugging him as tight as he'd ever had he felt like all the energy he'd felt just a second ago drain out of him like a liquid. His thoughts were jumbled, confused and for the better part of two minutes he just stood there holding the most precious thing that had ever existed in the universe.

Than his mind began to come up with useful thoughts. More precisely the last moments before he'd lost consciousness. The strange impossible tractor beam. He had tried to get out of its way but it had corrected its course to match. It had hit them... Suddenly concerned he started back to the cockpit. “Computer, report status” he commanded.

The cool calm and uncaring voice of the computer reported. “All systems functioning normally. Current speed, zero. Current location, unknown. Both individuals on board show no anomalies in their physical conditions”

This calmed down the slight panic that'd been welling up inside as he imagined his ship all banged up and damaged, adrift maybe or about to loose containment. Setting his son down in the seat slightly behind him to the right and locking in the restraints he kissed the kid and tabbed on the display in front of little Eagle.

On it the kid's favorite holo-cartoons came up instantly capturing his full attention. “Chuggingtooooooon” he yelled in delight. Unable to suppress a smile Chris literally impacted the main seat in the cockpit and scanned the readouts in front of him.

Everything looked in perfect working order. Even the cargo seemed to have remained unaffected by whatever had happened to them. Then he let his gaze lookout the windows in front of them and gasped in shocked awe.

The gasp drew the attention of little Eagle away from his screen and the trains that he loved so much to see what his daddy found so special. “Daddy look! Lots and lots of spaceshippies!” Eagle said, pointing out with his little finger.

And though the hundreds, maybe thousands of spaceships of all shapes and sizes were an awesome sight indeed something even more awesome was taking up all the attention from Shake. In the distance, possibly millions of miles away from them judging by the number of spaceships, an object of impossible size emanated a bright blue-green radiation that silhouetted everything between the SS Home and the object.

Whatever whits Shake had recovered after regaining consciousness was gone once again. His mind a total blank as it was unable to grasp what it was perceiving. It took at least 10 minutes before the first rational thought returned to Shake. “Where the hell are we?” he asked out loud. He hadn't really asked anyone in particular but two replies came none the less. "Shiny green space Daddy!" and "Current location is unknown. Local stars and stellar object patterns do not match any configuration currently in the stellar cartography database. Unable to detect navigational beacons or subspace signals. Attempting to match gravitational wave, black hole and other rare phenomenon comparisons. Processing. Stand by"

The first, of course, came from Eagle who was mesmerized by the glow coming from the object that lit up not only the ridiculous number of vessels around them but space itself, or so it seemed. The second was from SS Home's AI, turning up the heat of the Quantum Singularity Multi Core Processor clusters that provided it with computational processing power to determine what the location of the ship was, relative to the rest of the Universe. The implications of the AI not being able to match the star charts with local space didn't even really register in Shake's consciousness though. His mind was still struggling to catch up with the situation. He leaned over his son, grabbed him tightly in a hug and gave him a big sloppy kiss.

"At least we are both okay and together! That's the most important thing in the entire Universe, my little superman!" he told the little guy. "Me Loving Daddy too being two gedder!!" he answered, a glorious smile lighting up at least as bright as any supernova Shake knew about. It was just the thing he had needed at that point, and knew that whatever happened, they'd get through it and have an adventure doing it.
