The Los Angeles have already captured the NBA Championship trophy as they have won in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat last October, and then the NBA Draft was already held and both these events are held very late in their original schedule because of the pandemic that all over the world are experiencing right now because of the corona virus. And right after just more than two months a new season is about to begin next month on December 22 on which there will be a total of 72 games per each 30 team that is 10 games less compare to the original 82 games schedule on an normal NBA Season. And for this article of mine i will share to you on how on the normal season the league scheduled the 82 games for each team.
In the format of the NBA there is a total of 30 teams which is divided in two conferences which are the Eastern and Western Conference on which one team will have to face the other 29 teams twice, thrice or sometimes more. There are 5 factors when it comes to scheduling of games. Scheduling formula, availability of the courts, official break, conflicts and the broadcasters.
I explain to you first the COURT AVAILABILITY, before the ongoing season ends each teams are already giving 50 possible dates that they're homecourt will be available to held a game that should be on the date said that there must be 4 Mondays and 4 Thursdays that included also the playoffs for them to be able to resolved some CONFLICTS, in the NBA they are also some playing courts that are used by other sports teamin the other league. One of the example is the Staples Center which is the homecourt of the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, on which the Los Angeles Kings are playing their home games of the NHL National Hockey League, also in the Madison Square Garden which is the homecourt of the New York Knicks and also of the New York Rangers and with some big boxing and others sports event as well. They need resolved all of that conflicts atleast 1 year ahead before the new season started. The factors that they are looking at this situation is if they have enough time for them to change court from basketball to ice hockey or vice versa. Also included on the schedules are the OFFICIAL BREAKS where there are really no games on the said date such as Holiday's and All Star Weekends.
Then it us followed by the BROADCASTERS, or those who have the rights to televised the games because they are investing a big amount of money for them to be able to release the NBA games. So that is the reason why they have the rights on what airtime they wanted. And also they are paying big bucks for their sports announcers and an example to them is Skip Bayless of FOX Sports that I knew a lot of people are annoyed and don't like this guy but the TV Network are paying him around $6,000,000 per years it is because not only NBA games is he covering and also some other sports league like baseball and American Football. While Kevin Harlan which is one of the very best play by play NBA game announcer is getting a lay check of $400,000 per year.
And the last one is the SCHEDULING FORMULA, on how it happens it has 82 games to be played by each team in a regular season? As I mentioned in the NBA there are a total of 30 teams, with two separate divisions the East and the West that have 6 divisions which have 5 teams per each division. The first set up is the Intra Division Level that they need to face four times each team on their division, 2 home court and 2 road games. There are 4 teams that they need to face in their division so on that they already have a total of 16 games. And then it followed next by the Inter-Division or the other division on their conference. For example the Los Angeles Lakers they need to face against the six teams from North West and South West 4 times, and 4 teams from it they need meet 3 times in total they'll be having a total of 36 games. And lastly is the Conference Level 15 teams from other Conference they need to play for 2 times each team that have home court and road games each that in total have 30 games. So all in all it has 82 games total.
