Medical frontliners honored in commemoration of National Hero's Day

In commemoration of National Heroes ’Day, the Archdiocese of Manila honored and honored the medical frontliners in the country, who have been dubbed‘ modern-day heroes ’for their heroism and sacrifice during the COVID-19 pandemic. In his homily at the Mass for the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time held at the Veritas Chapel, Manila Apostolic Administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo acknowledged the heroism of the medical frontliners in the Philippines. According to Pabillo, the independence of the country from then until now is the result of the efforts and sacrifices of the country's own heroes. The Bishop further shared that the medical frontliners have made a great contribution and perseverance to care for and cure those who are ill with COVID-19. He explained that due to the heroism of the medical frontliners in the country, more people are being cured from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and only a few of these numbers have died. "We are commemorating National Heroes' Day. Our freedom today is the result of the efforts and taxation of the lives of our heroes then and our heroes today. In our country, more than 200,000 people have been infected with COVID, but only more than 3,000 are dying - only about 1.5% of those infected. This low number is due to our modern-day heroes - the medical frontliners… ”Bishop Pabillo meditated at the Healing Mass on Radio Veritas. He further asserted that the heroism of those who serve in hospitals in the country is amazing that despite the low salary, lack of adequate benefits and risks posed to their lives and families, they are risking their lives for the benefit of the people. According to Pabillo, this kind of heroic way of forgetting and risking one's own life for the sake of others and more like the taxing of Jesus' own life to redeem the world from sin is unforgivable. “Even if the salary is low, even if it is dangerous for them and their families, and even if they lack supplies, they risk their lives for the people. That is, a person becomes a hero when he bets, forgetting himself for others. That is your imitation of Jesus, ”he added. As a tribute and prayer for the medical frontliners, a Mass, held in conjunction with Heroes' Day, in San Felipe Neri Parish, Mandaluyong City, was also offered by the Archdiocese of Manila to the frontliners.
