No one has stopped the increase in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections in the Philippines with the continuation of the first days of the "-ber" months in the Philippines.

As many as 228,403 people are affected by the country's dreaded disease, after it increased to 1,987 this Thursday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

New confirmed cases were reported again today compared to yesterday, where more than 2,000 were recorded.

The said data was reached after 2.53 million people in the country underwent COVID-19 testing.

"There were 24 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, 12 recovered cases have been removed," the department said in a statement.

"Moreover, there were three (3) cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were deaths."

Most of the alleged new cases came from the following areas:

National Capital Region (818)

Cavite (153)

Laguna (125)

Negros Occidental (122)

Rizal (78)

Despite that, only 65,240 of them can be called active cases after this to avoid those who have recovered and died from the virus.

Another 65 people were killed from COVID-19, driving the total number of local casualties to 3,688.

Like the case tally, Metro Manila still leads the way with new cases of 35 deaths, while it has the lowest number in Central Luzon, Western Visayas and Central Visayas, which both recorded a death toll.

The number of lucky ones who recovered from the pathogen today dropped to 159,475. That is 880 more than the data recorded by the DOH yesterday.

According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) figures, there are an estimated 25.6 million COVID-19 victims in the world. 852,758 of them are dead.
