In contrast to the so-called "western" style, which is known for very high-calorie meals with a lot of fat and red meat, and very few vegetables and fruits, the Mediterranean diet uses fish, garlic, olive oil, as well as many fruits and fresh and boiled vegetables. . Research has shown that people living on the coast have a longer lifespan!

Mediterranean cuisine is the perfect model for proper nutrition

This is not a revolutionary culinary trend, but a traditional way of preparing food that includes the use of pasta, vegetables, fruits, fish, and olive oil, garlic, yogurt, and cheese are also unavoidable. All in all, it is a balanced diet that provides the body with all the necessary nutrients.

Longer lifespan of people who eat like this

Research has shown that people who live on the coast have a longer life expectancy and are much less likely (even two to three times) to get sick and die from heart and blood vessel diseases (atherosclerosis, thrombosis, and inflammation of the veins) than residents of continental areas!

In contrast to the so-called "western" style, which is known for very high-calorie meals with a lot of fat and red meat, and very few vegetables and fruits, the Mediterranean diet uses fish, garlic, olive oil, as well as many fruits and fresh and boiled vegetables...

Such a diet is, above all, low in calories, contains plenty of fiber and little cholesterol. Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate, vegetables are grown all year round: citrus fruits, grapes, figs, peas, beans, beans, broccoli, tomatoes, cabbage ...

Of course, it is not necessary for us all to move to the sunny south because of that!

It is enough to include in our menu some foods typical of the Mediterranean climate.

So, you should eat fish at least twice a week, and also consume fruits, vegetables, peas, beans, whole grains and nuts, garlic, and olive oil as often as possible. And all that at the expense of butter, fatty meat, meat products, whole milk products, red meat, cakes, fried foods.

When you go on vacation, forget about pâtés, bacon, and kebabs - enjoy fish stew, grilled fish, and meatless spaghetti - only with tomatoes, cheese and oregano. Enjoy the real, Mediterranean way, remember those smells and tastes, and take them with you to the "colder" parts.

Sea fish for heart and brain

Fish oil is extremely useful. Statistics show that two meals of blue sea fish a week significantly reduce the risk of sudden death. Fish oil contains two fatty acids that are incorporated into the heart tissue and stabilize the heart rhythm, preventing arrhythmia.

Also, unsaturated fatty acids from fish increase IQ and scientists therefore recommend that pregnant and breastfeeding women eat fish more often (unless, of course, it is "enriched" with heavy metals).

How is the quality of olive oil assessed?

According to international norms, olive oil originates exclusively from the fruit of the tame fruit (Olea europaea, Sativa hoffm. And Link) without mixing with any other additives, and this name must not be applied to olive pomace oil.

Natural olive oil (virgin olive oil) is obtained in special conditions, which primarily refers to the temperature - so as not to change if it is inappropriate, and is not exposed to any other procedure than washing, pouring, centrifugation and filtration.

The secret of the olive tree

In addition to the fruit that is most used, the olive leaf is also increasingly valued. The ancient Egyptians used it to mummify pharaohs. Scientists have discovered over 120 pathological microorganisms that have become resistant to known antibiotics due to a large number of mutations.

Olive leaf extract, thanks to ingredients that have adapted to the changes of these microorganisms for centuries, has retained its therapeutic effect. It is an interesting fact that the most active compound in olive leaves is so harmless to humans that scientists have not been able to discover either a toxic or a lethal dose.

Mighty oregano

Oregano is probably the most popular spice in Mediterranean cuisine. Studies show that this plant has a very wide range of antibacterial, fungicidal, antiviral (antiviral), and antioxidant properties. Oregano has been shown to prevent the growth of staphylococcus bacteria as well as antibiotics, and experiments have proven that oregano stops the growth of fungi from the genus Candida.

Oregano essential oil is the strongest known herbal antiseptic - as much as 20 times stronger than phenol used to sterilize hospital equipment. Greek scientists have proven that oregano kills bacteria in polluted water and thus sterilizes it!

A fragrant (and healthy) supplement

Basil - the king of spices (basilicum in Greek means royal) whose ancestral home in India, is an unavoidable addition to Mediterranean cuisine. It is used fresh or dried, especially in dishes with tomatoes.

This plant stimulates the appetite, has a beneficial effect on digestion, and has a beneficial effect in the case of inflammation of the stomach and small intestine, asthma, and urinary tract diseases. Basil tea relieves cough.
