Many people read the scripture that says, "do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good." Then they translate it to mean that they should keep harming themselves in their bid to overcome the evil in their partners.
That's not true.
If your partner abuses you, that is evil.
If you allow yourself to endure the abuse, that also is evil.
You are not overcoming his evil. You are accepting it and adjusting to it and learning to live with it.
The scripture says, "overcome evil with good."
What is good? Good is your self-love.
Good means you are unwilling to accept abuse.
Good means you are saying no to abuse. Good means, that you have to disappoint that partner by rejecting abuse.
Good means, you should walk far away from the abuser and the abusive situation.
To overcome evil with good is for you to take decisions that will guarantee your own happiness.
Even in your relationship, remember the scripture says, blessed is the person that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly. Abusers are ungodly. Do not follow their footsteps.
Don't allow yourself to become toxic. Overcome evil with good.
Take a walk.
Good means you are saying no to abuse. Good means, that you have to disappoint that partner by rejecting abuse. Good means, you should walk far away from the abuser and the abusive situation.
